Using favours
Two of my vassals owes me favours and I believe I can use these favours to force them to join my factions!

I am King of Italy and they are duke vassals of mine and I want them to join my independance faction.

Thanks

I don't believe your vassals can join your independence faction. It has to be your liege's vassals. Your own vassals can only join factions in your kingdom, which is the top category when you go to the factions tab, IIRC

You can't have your vassals join your factions... They're automatically considered part of your faction anyway because they're your vassals. Only direct vassals of your direct liege can join your factions.

Normally you could use a favor to force characters to join factions, but in this case I don't think it would work.

I'm assuming you are playing as a king seeking to gain independence from an empire. In this case, I don't think having your vassal dukes join your faction would be of any help since they are already your vassals and, as such, would automatically be part of your independence rebellion and provide vassal levies.

The favors you need for an independence faction are other vassals of your liege. If there's another king or a couple very powerful dukes in the empire that share your liege, buy favors from them and force them into the faction.

Maybe. Depends on what else the Byzzies have going on at the time. They may agree to join your war, but if they are otherwise occupied dealing with rebellions or fighting wars for their own agenda it's very doubtful that they will send enough troops to help you, if they send any at all.

All my readings and own experience tells me not to rely on allies. If they rock up to the party, then great, but it seems a little unreliable they'll be very helpful even if they do join your battle.

Hopefully the next patch fixes that with the changes they showed off for allies in war.

According to the dev diary on the subject, the player will be given limited control of allied forces by assigning priority tasks (siege holdings, fight enemies, etc.). But it will not prevent allied armies from leaving you if they become involved in a war that is a higher priority to them, such as if they are attacked or if a rebellion against them rises up.

Also, a little further reading shows that the expanded ally controls will be part of the new DLC, not the patch.

Could've sworn they talked about expanded ally controls in the dev update on the free features. Not that it matters to me though, as I'm probably getting M&M right away. This will at least fix the issues of when your ally is "helping", but instead actually just feeds warscore to the enemy or insisting on sieging down one province they hold on the other side of Europe while you dance around an enemy stack you could defeat if they just grouped on you.

I had assumed it would be part of the patch too. But then I re-read the developer diary and it did not specify. Saw a later posting in the comments thread on the diary from one of the developers saying it would be part of the DLC.

I called they Byz's who were my allies into a previous war (same ironman game) to re-take Rome from the Muslim's.

They were actually quite helpful and I couln't have won the war without them so maybe there has been some changes as I never bother with allies as it usually is of no help!

If you keep an eye on whats going on, an ally can give you the edge. The Byzantines are useful in Italy.
