Are there ways/mods to reduce diplomatic range?

Something about having the tribal Sultan-Chief of Mali (africa) be a blonde obese German guy really annoys me.

A mod that introduces something realistic such as a language or culture barrier would also be nice. I've lost count of how many times I made some nordic, greek, or avar culture group person the chancellor of England.

One of the game rules when you start a new game allow you to halve or even quarter the diplomatic range. However, keep in mind that your rank, the target's rank, your religion/culture and your target's religion/culture all play a role in determining diplomatic range.

As above state, also remember that differing culture/religion comes with penalty to opinion.

When you reduce the range, there are no long distance wars any more, which is nice. But there are fewer people you can try to bring into your court, or marry from.

An itallian historican has collected data about the deliver-time of letters. A letter from Venice to Constantinople during medival took aproximately one month to be delivered. And if i'm not wrong, this is already outside of the normal diplomatic range in CK2.

I play with the distance halved in the Game Rules and that's pretty good. I suggest giving it a try and seeing if you need it reduced more... I think you can change it in the defines, but I'm not sure.

I always play with the range halved as well. Seems to me like it should have been made the default. It's a setting in the game rules when you start a new game.
