How to reduce threat level fast?
So I just restored the Roman Empire, but I haven't really been able to reclaim much land for at least a decade because my threat level just won't go down quickly enough and just taking a few provinces will skyrocket it back up again. It says that it would take twenty years to fall back to zero percent. I realize that since I'm the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Roman Empire, I could just say ♥♥♥♥ it, I'm going to go into full pariah mode and just completely ignore threats, but I'm trying not to do that because the Arabian and hispanian empires exist and pose a threat if I have to fight not only them, but the rest of the known world at the same time. So what's the most efficient way of reducing my threat? The only ways I know of are releasing vassals or just waiting, and neither is going to be very helpful as far as I can tell. Are there any types of wars that don't increase threats? And do crusades increase threat? They haven't been started yet even though the year is roughly 1050 but they should eventually right? (I'm Italian Catholic, started as Lombardy in 769. No schism mending)

Releasing vassals free. There's no any other way, as I know.

If your chancellor performs statecraft your threat level goes down more quickly.

Some alternatives, to avoid massive coalitions against you:
-target rebellions in other countries
-join crusades
-encourage your vassals to expand outward; useful if you ban internal wars.

If you are the Roman Empire, just declare war anyway and beat everyone at the same time. Also break truces. They won't have the troops to do anything after you beat them once.

Winning a crusade don't give threat.
By vassalizing the pope you could ask him to declare crusade all 30 years.
Another exploit is to ask your vassalized pope a lot of ducal revendication inside a kingdom and declare war to all on them ; since you can only win 50% threat per war for 1 duchy or like i did, 17 duchies at same times.

ban internal wars, and put your strongest and most ambitious vassals on the border, my vassal King Franz the Holy is currently fighting the 5th german holy war for Lesser Poland, and two other of my vassal kings are in the middle of expansionist holy wars as well. All I have to do is to keep giving them money (so they love me and can fund their wars). And target the smallest coalition member which you can defeat before their allies show up. Won't reduce your threat, but lets me ignore my current threat rating of 69% :steamhappy:

Turn off Defenive Pacts at the Game starts. I'm pretty sure Defensive Pacts where the Reason they introduced "Game Rules" in the first place cause that Mechanic rustled so many Jimmies, including mine.

Yea it's tricky, when my character dies, the heir usually has collected himself 99% already, as I try to keep the heir strong and stack him full of demesne and a few titles, I also join his wars, as joining a war does not get 1000000 people to join the enemy, as it would attacking someone.

Then I have to be quick to create all the titles myself, so that I can grant them as viceroyalties. Although if my heir gets them, it is not that bad, if he won't give them to someone else, which he usually won't.

- Save
- Quit
- Reload
- Wait for defensive pact member of interest to (temporarily) leave the defensive pact
- Attack

There are some "tricks" you can use to lessen the strength of DPs (like making NAPs with some key participants) but the easiest way to bypass them alltogether is (as for truces) murder!

You murder the target ruler and immediately declare war before the heir can join the pact again.

5 wars for Lesser Poland? Pathetic. Could be done in one Blitzkrieg.
