Hermetic Society Library of Alexandria mission? (M&M DLC)

Has anyone managed to get / succeed at this special version of the "Find a Hermetic Text" mission?

Basically you get a standard find a text mission with 3 choices, but then a little while later your partner contacts you and says they found a map to the Library of Alexandria or something along those lines, and instead of your standard 100/200/300 esoteric knowledge reward, this one costs additional gold and rewards you with 1000 knowledge. Failure results in you and your partner becoming rivals.

I've received this event several times now on various characters and it NEVER succeeds. Since I was curious I decided to save scum this time, and with a "56% chance of success" I reloaded the same game 30 times and haven't succeeded once. Not. Once.

Is this thing scripted to fail just to screw you out of the extra gold and make your society partner a rival?

Well, ironically, one day after complaining / wondering about this, I finally succeeded. Squeaky wheel maybe? Go figure.

Hey Vikes, I have the same predicament with this event mission. It fails. And I too decided to save scum to see if the result would change but to no avail. I've probably tried at least as many times as you had. How did you end up getting it to succeed? With a 44% failure rate, I was rather sure I would have gotten it to pass with at least 10 tries. Stupid thing has the wrong odds.

The success/failure is determined the moment that you are shown the pop-up asking you where you want to invest your money into going.

Well it's been a while, but as I recall I had resigned myself to another failure and was incredibly surprised when it just went through. I don't think I even looked at what my odds of success were at that point, heh.

If the success / failure is predetermined as soon as you invest, I can understand save scumming not working. That said, I do think this particular event had some messed up displayed values as I recall.

seems to fail most of the time, and when it fails, you and your apprentice become bitter rivals. that kinda sucks and makes it risky, especially if your apprentice is also your heir or your court physician or an important vassal.

but one time i succeeded and also got that emerald tablet.

I can confirm from reading the game files on this quest that the game determines when you press the button if the quest succeeds or fails. Bloody annoying, I was convinced that this quest was bugged and there was no point going to Alexandria because it always fails anyway. I mean it always failed for me and when I tried save scumming it always failed so I assumed it just always failed.

If anyone wants to cheat to make this quest succeed they need to find their "quest partner" type charinfo into the console, get his charid, go into the save file and check his code under flags for A_FAIL. Change that to A_SUCCESS.

"Or," not "and." Most Hermetic artifacts are locked behind either Hermetic membership OR a specific Learning level. :)

I failed that one twice, I stopped doing them because the price is over 500 now, May have to try it again
