P.S. sorry just saw this topic is 2 weeks old...
But the reply may help someone, so let it stay here.
I hate bosses.
Edit: BTW we are talking about the second gorilla, Chapter 4, and in my case is hard difficulty.
The problem with this boss is that I was trying to do the same than previous gorilla; use my guns and shoot to the weak spot in the head. That is useless, I can do it for 10 minutes and the boss never dies. You HAVE to use the cannon, and you DON'T HAVE to aim to the weak spot, but shoot him anywhere. Once you follow those two rules, the boss is fairly easy to defeat.
I think this is awful game design, because in the previous confrontation with a gorilla the game taught us some game mechanics, then with this second one they change the rules because potato.
This boss really pissed me off, but now is done. I can enjoy the game again.
The trick to "killing" him the first time is your energy blast. it will stun him. If you can get him to NOT block his head when you stun him, you can blast his head for a couple seconds. Do it a couple times.
Yeah, this game is a mess. I'm only finishing it for the fun of trying to piss of my useless squadmates as much as possible. Are they actually competent if you flatter them enough? Like does the chick with the rocket launcher actually use it against the spider boss? Do they not CLUSTER AROUND YOU when you're trying to shoot rockets at the spider boss so they can at least draw some of its fire instead of making you do EVERYTHING?
if Rachael is in your squad she can sometimes give you a chance to allow her to use the RPG on several of the boss fight encounters, However it isnt common.
Also you can manipulate the AI positioning for a good minute or so by telling them to regroup so they follow you closely, go to an area and then tell them to retreat. Provided they arent getting shot to hell they should stay in that GENERAL area you told them to retreat at.
You are so cool that you mention in your CV that you play games in the hardest difficulty, and that is how you got that job of manager at McDonalds.
