TRESSFX and nVidia Cards
TressFX is an AMD-developed hair-rendering proprietary technology, just as PhysX and the APEX APIs are nVidia's (although nVidia are now licencing these two technologies). What does that all mean? Progress!
The game developers have allowed TR to be played with or without Tressing, so that AMD could showcase its new tech (and I wonder how much AMD payed out for THAT privillage) while allowing nvidia card owners the chance of still playing the game (albiet without that wonderful hair) on the Normal setting. This is the price gamers pay for the advancement of new technologies.
Of course, you can be sure nVidia will not let this one slide...with the TITAN hitting the markets now, you can bet the white-coated lab rats at nVidia are already pulling the AMD code apart to see how it works :)
So. The verdict? If your an AMD'er, you get the prize (this time). If your an nVidian, you may need to play TR in normal mode to enjoy good framerates. Either way, the future looks GOOD!

Nvidia already has a better hair tech, for a while now. Just that only one game has even tried to use it. And in my opinion it looks significantly better than TressFX.

odd ... cause i can pull 60 fps with tress effects on at 1920x1080 leaving eye candy on...

Honestly i liked the hair effect in both tomb raider and alice but the hair in alice was actually a tad better.

Did they remove the TressFX feature post patch? I head that the patch was meant to address some issues with Nvidia GPUs and that feature so I wanted to run a benchmark with it on but couldn't find it in the Graphics settings.

Edit: Found it in the Options on the start-up screen. I am crossing my fingers for a stable framerate this time.

Well I am with gtx660ti enjoying good framerates for about a minute. Then I enjoy my desktop wallpaper.

Ever since the first patch (which, correct me if I'm wrong, changed how TressFX worked so it didn't freak out as much) if I disable Tesselation, I can run TressFX with a stable Framerate and everything else on high. Using a 560 Ti.

Although I also didn't have ANY crashing issues, like at all. It was news to me when I heard that Nvidia and this game don't work well together.

Yeh and with Tessellation, if I set TressFX to High then game start Jerking / Lagging.

Hope Nvida / Geforce will solve this problem in next update.

The patch of late helped me out alot. GTX 690, I can run ultimate with Tesselation off no problem. Even in 3D it runs much better.

BEST COMMENT EVER.You think like me into this matter (TRESSFX matter). That tech demo you show there is the BEST hair technology made from Nvidia some years ago (i think 3 years if im correct or more) and uses FULL DX11 and not some childish hair effects that are overwhelming. Also the demo above is way better than TRESS sh**ty FX in any case.

Also about Alice. It may be a DX9 game but the PHYSX hair you can see how they move according to the environment (windy environment) or the way she moves around makes her hair move 100% realistically and best part?Even consoles get to have such feature easily rendered by both PS3 XBOX 360.Let TRESSFX ROT.

New patch out that really helps. Can run treessfx etc now on gtx 670 pritty easily.

The only reason it ran terrible on nvidia cards, is amd/tomb raider did not allow nvidia to test the game out before coming out, and being able to make drivers for them.
They even apologized for it, because thats how awesome nvidia are. Now that they have had time with it, they have patched it and its all good.

When do amd ever apologize for terrible driver performance, I.e latest offence - Insane stuttering in far cry 3 for 7 series amd owners.

When did that patch got out?I thought drivers would sort Tressfx completely not a patch.Did you got a patch recently today that fixed Tressfx for you?

Hey,does anybody know how to enable the ultimate quality and the TressFX in the PC version? I can't find these options in the options menu. Is there any patch for this?

You must not be using a DirectX11 card. Those two blank spaces in your options are where TressFX and Tessellation would show up, but aren't there because your card doesn't support them.

There was a small patch yesterday , few improvements to TressFX are included,
i dont feel a difference.

Many times I've said that the TressFX in TR2013 are just a gimmick... and I still stand by that. But it bothered me that I wasnt getting full FPS on max settings since GTX570 is still a prtrry damn good card :D

I await optimisation of the setting. However, since its good enough for the consoles, at the moment I'm playing at 720p60 since it can have full graphic settings at that resolution. Ok so its not as sharp I guess. I can just rub some hairgel into my eyes before playing and I dont notice that xD (But seriously I wish for an optimised patch and set of drivers. Given that nVidia released drivers the day before release, it may be awhile).
