To those who get "Failed to initialize Direct3D with current settings"

Look further nomore, I've gather the solution here ! and help make it easy to understand even with those who are new at this computer thingy.

Symptom : press play : Failed to initialize Direct3D with current setting
Solution : Go to option -> uncheck "Exclusive fullscreen"
If doesn't work : Also uncheck "tessellation"in the "advance" tab

Sympton : Couldn't press "option" as the menu crashed

Means :
1. go to the link and copy the message ( raw data )
2. Make .txt file anywhere you want, name it whatever you want.
3. Paste the message into the file and rename the .txt into .reg
4. double click the .reg and press accept and such, after all the message are gone, you should be able to access Option.
5. Follow first solution.
- If that doesn't work :
3.1 double click .reg doesn't do anything, text version of that file still pop up. -> you have to go to view(?) -> folder and search options -> uncheck "hide known extension" -> you should see .txt after .reg now, delete .txt after .reg and the file should become registry file.

Symptom : Nothing works ! even uncheck everything and put everything to low, it's still NOT WORKING !!
Solution : Make sure your computer can run the game ( check "http://www.systemrequirementslab.com" to see if your computer met minimum requirement )
Solution #2 : Update your graphic drivers and install latest DirectX software.
Solution #3 : If you are using Ati radeon HD version 5XXX, you might experience the same problem as I do.

Note : I install the following in order of the link provided. and this is NOT guarantee to work since my PC seems to have special issue.

- http://radeon.ru/downloads/att/attsetup.exe < I install this one because someone on other forum said it's better than catalyst and it actually is >
- http://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/AMD_Catalyst_13.2_Beta7.exe < Tried to play after this one, Direct 3D issue still there >
- http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/12-8_mobility_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe < Install this one, during the installation, my screen turn black and flicker then went blue screened, the reboot following doesn't seems to have any damage on my computer and somehow fix the direct3d problem entirely>

Now i can play the game.
side note : My computer REFUSE to update any graphic drivers no matter how hard I tried, somehow those 3 drivers software manage to get passed through the problem for me.

If any of the problem occur : Start your PC in safe mode with internet, get on to your PC dev's website ( sony, acer, etc ... ) and download their original Video driver software to fix the problem ... Trust me, I went through hell for the past 5 hours to get this game working ... I KNOW my computer can run it and heck yeah it can ... 45+ fps on high setting with tess on isn't bad at all.

I did all the same things like you, got the blue screen+crash and auto-newstart.
after that, my screen settings changed in 800x600 (no problem..).

now, when I try starting Tomb Raider I get this message:

is your graphic card support dx9 ? because the thing that I wrote is just to downgrade graphic drivers down to 5400 instead of 54xx which should still support dx9. If you get that problem, it's saying that your graphic driver couldn't support dx9 from the beginning. If you need help restore it back to what it was before, i'll be glad to help you on that also.

Btw, I let my Win 7 search for graphic driver and now all is fixed, but thx for your helpfullness :)

Dont know, if my gc supports dx9, but I have dx11 yet... or what you mean?

mine is 5470 too and mine worked after i downgraded it to 5400 with the stuff i did. I'm wondering if you get the same error with current graphic driver you have or does it just completely ignore the game ?

ok i have that failed to initialize problem..i have unchecked the exclusive full screen option and even that didnt work.. i play on my hp pavilion g6 1210tx model which had ati radeon hd 6470 graphics..i can play games like crysis 3 , devil may cry and all such games in medium settings..and now tomb raider doesnt even starts for that ..plz help

I didn't like the pastebin file as it forces your reg entries for the game. Just not for me. I just go into regedit and force dx9, that worked. Wish they would fix it though so I could use dx11 etc.

I just bought Tomb Rider, and i have the same problem, failed "Failed to Initialize Direct3D with current settings" . I did uncheck exclusive full screen and unchecked tessellation"in the "advance" tab.
NOTHING CHANGED. i get same message "Failed to Initialize Direct3D with current settings" ... I started to regret that i purchased this game. Please give me solutions to solve this problem.
