The Brute on the foredeck of the Endurance

So, I'm stuck and can't beat Boris. I shoot Boris untill I get the almost dead sign and move in for the kill with the axe. I usually get in one good hit, maybe two and Boris grabs Laura by the neck and throws her to the deck. I've tried holding the (F) key down and "mashing" the key to no avail. I've played the game at this spot probably 50 times now. I even backed up to a past save and redistributed skill points to maximize my axe ability. Any help?

You need to use the dodge manuver on him. I use the 360 controller, so i'm not sure with key it is on your keyboard. After you dodge, you'll have a chance to hurt him.

Use the dodge counter. Shooting the big russian dude won't help you. When he comes near to you, dodge him by pressing the dodge key then a QTE will prompt you to press F. That's all. If you still can't do this yourself. There are a lot of Tomb Raider Gameplay Walkthrough videos in YouTube. Check that out!

Like everyone else has said, use the dodge counter. Don't hold it down or mash it, press dodge once when he's about to swing, then if I recall correctly a button prompt will pop up and time will slow down ever so slightly - then you're in business. Hope that helps?

Like the others have said: You need the dodge counter. When he misses you because you countered his attack, he is also vulnerbable to shots for a short time. The shotgun is very helpful here, and there is also plenty of ammo lying around.

Use any of the guns to shoot him in the head after you dodge him - quickly turn around after he swings at you and you'll have a clear shot at back or his head. After he's been shot a few times, he slows down and will even pause to catch his breath from time to time (chasing Lara is hard work!!!) You're right that it can be tricky timing the hits - after you move in and hit him with the ase using the "F" key take your time and wait till you see the red circle to make the next strike - it may take a few tries but you can bea him...

Remember the approach, you may need to use it again later on (wink.)

So! I manage to get that far but the first finishing blow doesn't want to engage no matter when I press "F" all I get is the yellow flash and then he grabs me,I managed it once before and now not even close.

I don't see why "they" have to make is so hard to get by certain points in the game when the rest is sooooo easy.

SO aparently your supposed to wait til it gets to the center circle and press "F" before it exits the outside circle.

Yes, wait until the circles converge. You'll see them light up and that's when you're supposed to strike. You'll have maybe half a second before they pass out of the zone again.

I have done everything advised above, I have dodged and stabbed the arrow, and shot over and over in head...till my ammo finishes - he just won't die. I am so sick of it, I am about to give up the game. I have been trying to kill this guy for hours this week. Is there a chance there is a glitch? I have waited for the center circle, got in close waiting for a killer blow with my axe - you name it, I have tried it. How do I get past this?

I finally beat him when omally 72 said something about targeting circles. After the first strike, I had to wait for the cicles to converge then strike again.

No glitch fritti - it's about timing - everyone who has commented on how to get past this guy has given you the correct advice. If you can't do it then perhaps you're not hitting the key at the right time. Tomb Raider's quicktime events all are resolved by getting the timing down (the wolf in the cave is probably the worse...) but all of them are beatable...

Learn how to use these Lara counters, master them. Not only the dodge counter, but the one that throws dirt in the eyes of the enemy as well. When you are good at using these, the game will become even more enjoyable and you'll have a real blast at killing those guys that come at you holding a shield.

Also, I don't want to spoil the game for you, but that "brute" is just training, there will be a similar enemy, but more difficult.
