Stuck on Shipwreck Beach, can't get off rope

On the way up to the lab, on top of the lift, I took a detour to pick up a document (Whitman's "confession") and a geocache on top of a pillar. I can't come back down.

Lara will die on contact with the rope post. Sliding down - doesn't matter if you stop and shimmy down to the post - she dies on pressing "B" to let go of the rope. There is no other rope I could reach and the fall is too long to survive. She should either land next to the post or grab the ledge, but neither happens, no matter if I try to jump, or let go a bit earlier, or hit "X" to grab onto the ledge.

Any ideas, I'm completely stuck here? Sure wish the game would remember more checkpoints back.

Screenshot of this place would help. Never had any trouble with ropes, though.

That's not a detour, you are on the right track. You need to get up, not down - if you are on the pillar where the document is.

I had the same problem, i had to shoot the birds. There are sitting at the rope. (-: I hope it helps
