Quick question about fast travel and collecting
Not very far into the game. Noticed that there are lots of collectibles and bonus items that I missed from the first two areas I visited. I have just unlocked fast travel, but I'm not sure how to proceed? Do I continue through the game now and then eventually go back to get the goodies, or should I 100% complete each area before moving on? If I fast travel back to another area, I assume I can explore all I want and then fast travel back to my current location?

Just trying to get a handle on how I want to tackle the game. I think I'd prefer completing each area as I go, but I don't want to distract too much from the story either. Is there a point in the game at which you cannot go back to each area and get the collectibles?

Thanks!

You can't complete everything early in the game, a lot of collectibles are only reachable with upgraded gear you earn later in the game.
Thats when fast-travel comes in handy.

Actually you can collect everything early in the game. But some larger area's are revisited during the story and these won't reveal all their secrets early on, they may need special equipment or some parts are only accessible after a little detour

I went back to most areas when I was a stage or 2 ahead. Rope arrows make shanty town much easier. I went back to the early forest zones alot to shoot more animals for extra points and because there were usually arrows hanging around and to practice because it's safe there and I don't do much gaming.

I also found some areas easier once I could create a flame

Assuming that you've created a separate start point (not continuing from your last campsite) you can go back to most of the areas where you traveled in the past. There are some points that you can't get to because you've already been blocked by something that's happened before (like a bridge collasping or the structure has been blocked by fire damage) so going back is impossible.

Remember to start the game from a saved start point instead of just continuing from your last campsite - once you get to the end of the game you'll see a message telling you've reached "The Point of No Return" - there is a saved game campsite after that prevents you from using "Fast Travel" after the game is done. Not using a saved start point will prevent you from going back at the to the other campsites.
