They said American accent, but thats not the first accent I would think of that would have difficulties with the names. I bet its nigh on impossible to distingush between Lara and Laura in Australian English.
Again, its not about intelligence. In European English, there is a tencance to have very closed counding vowels. There fore subtle distinctions can be heard in the pronounciation. In USA English, there is a tendancy for much broader vowels in most, but not all accents. I would imagine Australians have the broadest vowel set... but I base that mostly from Television.
But sure, within the game, there are many accents. Each pronounce Lara a little different. Roth has a very shortened dimunitave sound, while Sam has a much the opposite. Just two examples. (I am not even going to try to analyse the non native speakers since that adds a whole additional set of variables such as how, when, and where they learned English).
(Sometimes I wish I studied Linguistics xD - Its all very interesting to me)
Lah-ra = Lara
Law-ra = Laura
How ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard is it?
edit
also, isn't gamespot british?
From what I can tell he has a few minor roles in TR too, like the guy who kidnaps Lara at the very beginning, and that German-sounding scientist in some collectible documents.
It's Lara, not Laura. It's not hard at all. " I bet its nigh on impossible to distingush between Lara and Laura in Australian English." Maybe if you're an idiot but I'm not calling you one. I'm Australian and I have no trouble saying her name.
Even Reyes in the game can't say it for some reason. It's like Lar-rah not Lor-rah or La-rah like Reyes says it.
Bloody hell people, it's LARA! I hate how noobs can't say her name.
Lol, why are they a 'noob' because they can't pronounce her name properly? Everyone is saying Lah-ra. If you're pronouncing it LAH-ra you're still saying her name wrong.
There's no other way of showing pronunciation of her name other than LARA. Like it has two R's in her name, Larra. I wish you could attach voice clips, haha.
THANK YOU!
yes
Bye bye
There is a way. It's called transcription:
Lara [lɑrɑ] - correct;
Lara [lærɑ] - incorrect;
Laura [lɔːrɑ] - incorrect.
