Anyone else upset with the stupid way {SPOILER} died?
Obviously I'm talking about Roth...I just found the way he died so stupid. The guy threw a tomahawk at him and rather then throw himself and Lara to the ground he turns his back on the guy to protect her? The whole reason he was in this situation was because he was out of ammo yet the moment he takes the hatchet to the back he whips out ANOTHER PISTOL and kills the rest of the guys with it?

I would have found it much more convincing if they'd made him die in the helicopter crash or something.

Well.. I thought that at first. But replaying the game several times, the way he handle the situation was a little more realistic than MLG-Pro-ing his way through it. He was holding on to Lara, so he only had one hand free. RIGHT when that hand ran out of ammo, Matthias came up and threw the tomahawk.

Let's put ourselves in normal human minds. Even if there was a possibility of him moving out of the way with Lara's heavy weight, we don't always respond to that kind of thing fast enough. When he was finally forced to drop Lara, he grabbed in the (area?) that Lara was leaning against for the spare pistol. Sure, maybe he could have shoved her down and gone for the pistol and everything else would have worked out better (even though that'd all happen in a crazy short amount of time,) but I think it's a death that says a lot about Roth's priorities. He loved Lara and wanted to keep her safe. He was thinking about THAT above what would logically keep him alive, even if that would help her more.

Death reflecting the character. *Nodnod* Better than a helicopter crash, in my opinion.

Yeah, it makes sense when you put it like that but I still think he could've at least tackled her to the ground or whatever. The guy only had one chance to hit. I just played through that part for the first time and he was an awesome guy which is why I'm conflicted :(

This is a good analysis and well put. It's true and I'm sure that's Crystal's reasons for making this scene as it is.

This whole game was stupid and one crappy death scene doesn't do much to it as a whole. That Old Man was the best of the lot and he died being pulled down and that was alot better than what happened to Roth.

Oooh, totally agree, there were a million ways not to die that way... a little bit stupid
