Stuck on fight with Russian, can't shoot, possible glitch? (minor spoilers)
I'm currently up to the fight with the Russian. I'm having no trouble getting past the first part where I have to press the F button or the bit where I have to mash A and D and then mash E however I can't shoot him. I'll be at the part where Lara is struggling with him. I'll be mashing E then a message will come up on the screen saying press left mouses button to shoot him and I do but nothing happens and it will just tell me to start mashing E again. I've spent the last half hour mashing E while intermittently pressing the left mouse button when the option appears however I have had no success in shooting him and it's becoming very frustrating. My left mouse button is otherwise working. I checked the key mapping to make sure I hadn't accidentally changed the controls and everything was fine. I can't think of what else to do. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a glitch? Does anyone know how to fix it? Or am I just missing something obvious and doing it wrong?

I don't think you're doing it wrong and I didn't have that problem or heard of anyone having it (doesn't mean there isn't anyone, of course :D). Only thing I can think of is to assign a secondary control for Primary Fire and try it using that.

{possible spoilers} Is this the one where the guy finds her hiding and makes her come out into the open by pointing a gun at her?

They struggle for control of the gun, mashing [E] makes the gun rise and point towards the attacker, you need to mash hard and the prompt will change to the gun icon when it's pointing at him and that's when you press fire.

No you are not doing it wrong, but you do have to fire the weapon, it,s the last icon to pop up

When you're mashing the "F" key, slow it down a little - you're probably pounding the key too hard - it's more of a softer roll. When the key is pressed down too hard you just end up confusing the game and you get shot in the head. Slow down.

Also, when the key tells you to press the "E" key, let go of the "F" key and press the "E" to shoot the guy. This is a pretty common part of the game and you'll learn to control the key better by not mashing it so hard.

Yes, good advice from the other guys.

One more thing that I've learned from contributors like these:
When you get prompted to use a specific key/action, movement will slow down mid-fight and white ring(s) will appear. This ring will get smaller and then turn to red. THIS is when you need to press the required key(s), when it's red. It will only be red for a moment. Timing is very very important. If you press too early or too late, Lara will lose the fight. You may be required to get two or three different actions right in a row, one after the other. Make sure you know which keys are represented by which prompts.
Don't give up on the game. Once you've perfected these actions, the later fights will be easier and more rewarding.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone. It turns out that it was nothing I was doing and the left mouse button on my computer just doesn't seem to want to function during scenes of that that type. I changed the primary control for shooting and it fixed the problem. Special thanks to Bepfy I probably wouldn't have found a solution without your help.
