Lara's hair freaking out
I have all the settings maxed including the TressFX, getting good frames and everything, but Lara's hair freaks out in the cutscenes. What setting can I switch to fix this? Is this because off TressFX of SSAAx4 or what?

Edit: just to recap what I've said in the comments in case you didn't see, it was only freaking out on the first mission where it was very stormy and windy, its fine now. I also turned off Exclusive Full Screen mode and I'm not sure if it made TressFX better, maybe slightly or maybe its just a placebo effect, but it does give me a +4-5 increase in fps

From what I've read online, that's an issue with the version of TressFX they're using. Apparently it's been addressed in the new version of this game coming out for "Next Gen" consoles. Apparently that version is not coming to PC, but that's why they always say.

I could be mistaken though.

Actually its not bad now that I got past the first mission, that cave. it was really windy and I guess the hair couldn't handle it, but now that I'm not in a storm its fine

Turn off "Exclusive Fullscreen Mode" when using Tress FX.

okay I'll give it a try I remember seeing that option. What exactly is "exclusive" fullscreen mode tho?

It is just normal full screen. Use bordless window instead. Idk why it has problems with Tress FX. This is mainly an issue for nVidia cards.

What are your specs, resolution, and what frames are you getting with 4x SMAA? Just curious, I have a 4770k and a Dual Classified 780 ti OC'd to 1275 Mhz and my average framerate on the benchmark with everything turned up was around 52 FPS.

I have 4770K @ 3.5Mhz (the factory "OC"), Gigabyte GTX 770 "OC Version" 4gb 256 bit, 19**x1080 display. The benchmark gives me an average of 37fps, min 29, max 45 with ALL the settings turned up, not just the preset "Ultra". As I said in my previous comment, it works fine now, its just the first mission where it is very stormy and windy that her hair was freaking out. And @LeadStarDude I have nvidia so that would make sense, but again it's working alright now. I might try it out anyways and see how it is. Thanks!

Do not use 2x or 4x SSAA. That is beyond demanding. Try using FXAA & all other settings maxed. Also turning off exclusive fullscreen mode while using Tress FX will smooth out most of any stutters on the nVidia cards.

I stay above 60fps with all settings on & maxed except exclusive fullscreen mode turned off & using FXAA @ 1920x1080.

i7-4900MQ factory OCed to 4.0GHz
32GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600MHz
2 x 4GB GTX 780M in SLI

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

turned off exclusive windowed and got 3-5fps increase between min, max, avg. With an avg of 38fps and min of 31fps I think I'll just keep the SSAA. I came from consoles so this is perfectly acceptable fps for me. The hair is fine too at this point.

Yea thats obnoxious, basically at this point they are selling a patch for a lot of money.

Tresfx 2 solves the problems, and is so fast it runs on freakin consoles. They also get subsurface scattering and improved facial expressions and stuff.

Sad:(

Its almost like the watchdogs situation, pc should be superior but is held back.

I have a GTX 770 and the TressFx works at 2X . I remember it was kind of a no go with the GTX 550i I had before

Try turning on Multi Core Flush mode. It was a new addition to the game engine a while back, and it really gives a giant perf boost. To enable:
1. Open Regedit (windows key + r -> type in "regedit")
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Crystal Dynamics\Tomb Raider\Graphics]
3. Create a new entry, "MultiCoreFlushMode" Right click and set dword to 1. Binary or Hex shouldn't matter. Thank me later! :pandastunned:

tried this and double checked I did it corrected: min -2fps, max -1fps, avg no change. I think I'll pass on this one. It might work for other rigs but certainly not mine

Yeah... SSAA looks great, but it is such a major performance killer.
2x SSAA @ (1080p) 1920x1080 is actually making your GPU render the game @ (1440p) 2560x1440.
4x SSAA @ (1080p) 1920X1080 is actually making your GPU render the game @ (4k) 3840x2160.
After the card renders the scene at the higher resolution the scene gets downscaled back to you actual native resolution. If you are using more than 1080p native screen the SSAA really puts a hurt on your GPU with insane resolutions.
2x SSAA @ 1440p = 4k render. 4x SSAA @ 1440p = 8k render.

Honestly people should leave SSAA alone unless their native screen resolution is low, or they have a strong SLI / CFX setup.
