How to Fix "Runtime Error"

I've seen that multiples of you are experiencing the Tomb Raider 'Runtime Error' that causes the game to CTD (Crash to Desktop). After looking over a few of the suggestions, I've found a way that works and decided to document the steps here. This works for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and Windows 10.

1) Open the Control Panel -> Search/Open Windows Firewall

2) In the Windows Firewall window, select the 'Advanced Settings' option from the left-hand panel

3) In the left hand panel of the Advanced window, select 'Outbound Rules'

4) In the right hand 'Actions' panel, select 'New Rule'

5) in the 'New Rule' Window, tick off the 'Program' radio button, click 'Next'

6) Tick off the 'This program path' radio button, then click 'Browse' and browse to the installation directory of your 'Tomb Raider'; for most of you, this is probably C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tomb Raider -> Select the 'TombRaider.exe' and click the 'Open' button -> click 'Next'

7) Tick off the 'Block the connection' radio button, click 'Next'

8) Check all 3 of the 'When does this rule apply' boxes for 'Domain', 'Private' and 'Public'; click 'Next'

9) Name your rule. The description box is optional.

10) Enjoy your game and... wait for the obvious a$$h0l3 to troll this post, because it will happen. Most of you are toxic jerks.

You don't turn off the firewall, you create a rule in the firewall to block the program from communicating to the public servers, specifically, the online play.

And 5 years later, you still make someone happy! Thanks a lot for this! I've tried your solution and 1280*960 resolution and was able to run the game.
