Square Enix Membership disbabled

I am playing the original TR, I got frustrated and stopped playing for ages when I got stuck on a level but started again the other day and there was a message at the bottom of the start up screen " Please note that Square Enix Membership services are disabled and no longer functional in the menu system " I was still able to play the game for a few days but then now the game has gone weird, it still loads but doesn't run properly. I have tried all sorts of things and even thought of re-installing Steam but I wants money to do that which I don't understand if I already have Steam. Can anyone help please ? Or will I have to buy a new game that isn't with Square Enix

I just looked in the store for a new game and the same game that I have is still for sale so now I am even more confused !
