Tomb Raider (2013) Crashes after launching.
(Forgive me and my casual build and knowledge for this is my first Discussion I have ever posted)

Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3500X 6-Core Processor (6 CPUs), ~3.6GHz
Memory: 16 GB
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
GPU: Radeon RX 570 Series
SSD: 250 GB HDD: 1 TB (Game is installed in SSD)

Basically the game just crashes immediately right after the black screen after pressing play on the first menu.

What I notice in the local game files is that I get this "mdmp" file per attempt:
tombraider_1518445440_crash_2021_12_10T21_54_28C0.mdmp

Tried opening it in Notepad but it just reminded me of my cringey 13 year old self idolizing ZALGO x Jeff the Killer (´G ‰u29~\ ½ïþ "aJ )

Normally I would do my best to scan through the internet archives like Reddit, old forums sometimes Youtube etc., and I do most of the troubleshooting if not all of it and usually I would resolve it but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I have never been so frustrated because of a 2013 game and I have been working on this for days now.

I literally tried everything suggested in other threads and posts but dammit here's the list of the troubleshooting steps and workarounds that I made but FAILED:

- Verify/Validate Game files
- Re-installing the Game
- Turning off Anti-viruses or Firewalls
- Re-installed/Updated DirectX (?)
- Updated Windows and Drivers to the latest version
- Updated Graphic Drivers
- Closed MSI burner and some Overlay apps (Radeon Software, Steam, Overwolf etc.,)
- Run as Administrator from Local game files
- Run Compatibility Troubleshooter
- Tried ALL the windows version
- If I change the Compatibility mode it will NOT LAUNCH AT ALL including the menu.
- Disable Fullscreen optimizations
- Toggled and tried ALL the settings in the game menu before it launches (Exclusive fullscreen, Resolution, AA, Quality, etc.,)
- CanMyPCRun says it's 100% compatible. Had to install ALL the latest drivers as the site suggested.
- Excluded the Game and Steam itself and all of it's god forsaken ancestors in my PC for Anti-Viruses and Restrictions.
- Re-installed WINDOWS (It didn't work and it drove me mad and I knew this was the last straw)

My desperation led to Square-enix support center but I still don't have a reply.

Once again forgive me with my casual take with this approach of the issue, feel free to educate and enlighten me.

Thanks! :steamhappy:

Valve has some info about analysing MDMP files. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Using_mdmp_files

It sounds like you’ve tried a lot and running out of ideas. I see you have a 6 core CPU. Some games are made to run on fewer cores. You could try run the game on only 4 cores. Or on 2 cores. Keep in mind this will have performance impact.

Instructions:
1. Quit the Tomb Raider game.
2. Open Task Manager, right click on Steam and choose Set Affinity, then deselect some cores and click OK.
3. Try to launch the game and see if it plays.

I borrowed this idea. Source below.

I had the same problem, the only way I found to play the game was the following:
Right Click on Tomb Raider in Library
Properties
Beta -> Select Build743.0

Idk why last version crash

I had the same issue, everything went well for like 75 minutes, but then I started to get crashes every 5 minutes.

Build743.0 works great for me!

Running with Windows 11.
