She walks on a log, making out how dangerous it is, but you cannot fall off. You have no control.
She rushes through a dangerous tunner full of ledges, but she can't fall off.
I donno if you ever played the original Tomb Raider games, but it was basically trying to kill you.
Sometimes I miss that old-style TR gameplay, too. Times change, though. My eyesight has gone south in the last 20 years so maybe this is for the best lol.
the new tomb raider has added the functionality of the walk feature, only without you having to actually press shift...
The only real problem i have with it, is that Lara has an inability to drop moderate drops without doing a 180 and grasping out for a ledge, to prevent you from falling off a planned fall, or protests when you jump to avoid having to waste time catching the shoulder.
But then, if you drop over a zip-line from a height she doesn't like (even if you've lined it up perfectly) lara will drop to her death rather than get out her axe and zip down it.
And heads up, the puzzles are much more 'simple' than in TR1-3. The best times are actually when you're not anywhere near humans. It's literally Drake with tits, which is ironic given Drake was dubbed 'dude-raider' as a jab at it's emulation of TR.
They've removed the possibility of falling off. It's like a racing game removing the ability for you to steer into a wall. No, you didn't want to steer into a wall before, but the idea of a game is that you need to actively avoid failing.
Crystal Dynamics Legacy Of Kain game was great, but they can't make a Tomb Raider game to save themselves.
Checkpoints every 30 seconds. You can't even fall off a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ledge. Incredible guided levels. Pressing a button for solution to a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ puzzle (which is so simplstic it doesn't need one).
And why, oh why, are they under this, insane, insane idea people like quick time events?
Since Legend they have been using it. Everyone hates them, they are complete crap. Yet every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game, they impliment them.
Theres no exploration either, since you get a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pop up every 2 seconds telling you what to do and even though it's a sandbox, the levels themselves have 0 complexity.
And to give the illusion you are doing something "tap tap tap tap tap".
"Modern gamer standards" seems to translate as "derpy derpy derpy derpy derp"
It sucks hard Core Design bombed, Tomb Raider 2 laughs at this crap.
Getting upset and trying to insult me won't stop it being a crap game.
You even had to edit half the post out lol
I'll also sympathise more with the OP and supporters, as yeah, TR(originals) were made to kill you, even with thugs and animals shoving you (off edges if you're not positioned correctly).
I was quick to point out walk feature in originals, but now that i play it and think back, there is almost no way you can fall off ledges because lara does a quick 180, even if you're trying to kill her, she forbids it..
So yeah, it's a lot more baby's first TR, although i still find enjoyment in it despite it's flaws.
The story and dialogue though... jeeeeeeeeeeezes... "we can't get off this island" "sam we can't get off this island" "guys we can't get off this island becaue the storms we can't get off this island" "MAKE US WHOLE AGAIN ISAAC".
Honestly, I'd struggle to review this game even more than I struggled to find the motivation to play it, because I'm torn:
- If you want a modern generic cover shooty action bleh game, yeah absolutely great do it you'll have a blast, so thumbs up on that score
- in no way shape or form does it have anything to do with the Tomb Raider series, every other game bearing the name is more Tomb Raider, and I do mean every. Huge thumbs down on that score.
Thank god this isn't tomb raider... as the actual tomb raider games were utter ♥♥♥♥ towards the end. This is much better than Angel of darkness or the last revelation.
Yes, yes, everything sucked so nothing really matters etc. Let's stick a Nirvana song in a peter pan movie, let's make Superman a ♥♥♥♥, why don't we do a shakespeare play in simple english with baseball caps on backwards, wouldn't games be better if they just told you when to press a coloured button or duck behind stuff, and so on and so forth; Aren't we all clever for celebrating decline.
Really though, since the game has nothing to do with Tomb Raider, small wonder if it is enjoyed by people who don't want it to..
