Tomb Raider Running Slow On Modern Hardware, Help?
So I bought Tomb Raider 2013 for the PC and I am getting really poor framerate in the teens. My specs are as follows:

-Intel 6-core
-24gb of Ram
-Geforce 980ti (the latest driver)
-Windows 10 64-Bit

Every other game I own runs well but no matter what settings I use, the game has low frame rates. Even with TressFX turned off. Tinkered with vsync and other settings as well. When I first load into the game there appears to be some sort of graphics artifcating and a bit of graphics blinking. Can't really take a pic as it disappears quick.

Anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing the game to run so poorly?

Intel i7 6-core. Plays all new games fine.

I don't think that (s)he's asking what your cpu is ( even though you still don't answer it ) but telling that your cpu is possibly the problem.
So 6 core, that could either be a i7 970 from 2010 or a i7-6850K from 2016.

Depending on which cpu you actually have it could very well be the issue.

Anyway just run a monitoring tool next to the game and see if you have any cores that are (close to ) maxed out. Throwing more cores at it doesn't do any good if the game is not programmed for it. For that matter I still need to come across a game that is perfectly programmed to utilize all 4 cores, let alone 6 cores.

You could also try playing with your resolution.

I should have verified that the game ran fine a long time ago, even on an older GPU, I have the Intel 980x. I am able to run games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Doom, Witcher 3, etc all maxed out. I believe the issue lies in a recent driver bug. I contacted Nvidia with the issue. Hopefully they will look into it. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Hi. Did you ever find out what was causing this?

I'm having framerate problems also, with an i5 6600k and GTX 1060, so there shouldn't be any problem...

No I was unable to find a solution after hours of Google searching and asking people so I gave up. My only guess is that it's a possible Nvidia driver issue and I say this because there are brief moments of graphical glitching in the menu.

With an 980ti you don't need the latest driver. Use an uninstall tool like DDU to remove any current and old driver installations. Then do a fresh install of a driver branch nVidia already finished developing like 375, 372 or 368. Pick custom install and install only what you need i.e. if you don't have a 3D display or VR stuff don't install the 3D driver part.

Ugh. Glad I didn't pay much for this game then :/

Think I'm gonna give up too. Thanks for replying!

I bought a dlc skin but when i equipped it the game just lagged out. Unequiping the skin stopped the problem...

Yeah I never even tried any of the DLC. Game sounds like it's a buggy mess though.

Have you taken the advice of trying a different driver? Definitely sounds like a driver issue to me.

As for the artifacts you are seeing when the game starts, I have run this game on 3 different machines and seen the same so it's either a game or driver bug, probably unrelated to your performance issues and probably nothing to worry about.
