Question about the realism of the fiber wire assassination
I'm curious. How realistic is the assassination by fiber wire depicted in the game?

It seems to me that, if the victim is asphyxiating, he'd have a lot more time to struggle. If they're strangling, probably less but still much more than the ~1 seconds in the game. Even then, by releasing the pressure so quickly, the victim would regain consciousness. Is this weapon supposed to sever arteries and other structures, maybe even break the neck of the victim? Any science on this?

I don't really want to test it (although my little sister annoys me sometimes, AHEM, just kidding), but I'd say the sudden shock the victim is suffering when you strangle them is an important element.

The wire is actualy pulled so much it crushes the windpipe so much it doesn't open anymore for the victim to breath again.

Oh.
Oh!
Oh man, that's nasty.
I will only use Fiber Wire from now on.

Still, that wouldn't explain the immediate loss of consciousness. Plus, if that's supposedly caused by constricting the arteries, by releasing the pressure, blood flow would resume in the brain and the victim would supposedly regain consciousness.

Someone arrest this man! He's about to misuse his keyboard!

From what I understand the fiber wire is used to; crush the larynx (preventing the victim from calling/screaming out), constrict the trachea (preventing the intake of air into the lungs), and compres the carotid artery (cutting oxygenated bloodflow to the brain), the result is a silent death, but likely nowhere near as quick as depicted in the games. Speed is no doubt added for dramatic effect.

Based on the animation in Absoution, it would appear that the speed and force used by 47 is designed to do all of the above, with the addition of snapping the victims neck, in this instance death would be near instantaneous.

Some further reading on the Hitman Wiki (http://hitman.wikia.com/wiki/Fiber_Wire) explains more and Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrote) indicates it is a long established assassination technique.

Not only does it crush the larynx but it collapses most blood ciculation to the brain. This causes a "blood choke" which only takes about 30 seconds, less if they struggle, to make someone black out. Boom.

My question is if you can really break someone's neck with your leg (I mean when you do a quick-time attack on a target, and then 47 breaks the targets neck using his leg)

To OP: LOL WTF with your stupid question asking if the fiber wire is depicted realistically or not? Do you think other people here have had experience with such an item and just would like to share it here so casually? How dumb of a question is that? The developers can only simulate what it would look like if someone was on the receiving end of it. How the ♥♥♥♥ you think anyone would know what it looks like to be strangled by a piece of wire. Oh maybe you think the developers can make a request to the authorities and say like "Hey do you mind if we go out and strangle someone and record it on video, because we are collection research for a computer game?" and the authorities would be like "Yeh sure no problem just make it clean kill, quick and neat and as fast as possible.." ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Would be kind of fun if the vic DID NOT fall unconcious right away. Just wiggling while you pull them away... Nah thats gross: :)

Once you cut the blood supply to the brain, it takes a few seconds for someone to black out :)

You dont need to test it on someone, a doctor can most likely tell you what will happen with the right amount of force applyed.

Hi there! Nice to meet you Mr Decimus. I'm Smig! By the way, this is Science. Science, this is Decimus. I hope you enjoy each other's company! :)

Seriously though, you could have just read some replies on top of yours and you wouldn't have wasted the time it took to type all that filler in. Documented historic events, studies on victims' bodies, estimates taking into acount human anatomy/biology/physics... it's an exciting new world out there!!
