Can't Launch Hitman Absolution?
1 of 2 error message will come up upon an attempted launch of Hitman: Absolution. Either the game is currently unavailable due to the application supposedly running, or nothing happens at all. My computer outpaces all of the system requirements, and I have tried literally every fix that would come to mind, from disabling firewalls to validating files to deleting clientregistry.blob to running the .exe in administrator. Every website with a supposed fix just lists one of the things mentioned above, and I have yet to hear of anyone with this problem getting it to work.

So really I'd just like to make a tally: How many people are having this problem?

Just out of curiousity. what is the file footprint of your game directory, IF YOU downloaded from steam, not from a disc installation. I want to see if this unpacking has anything to do with it. My file size for the game folder is approx ( approx because I have DLC ) 25.3 GB (27,249,476,825 bytes) . Does this differ MAJORLY from anyone who has had part of the game unpacked? This is what Steam validates the game as.

Also, in the game directory, is it generating a lot of those crash dump logs, that you cannot read in a text viewer?

Actually it makes a file named HMA.exe.*some numbers* for example HMA.exe.4620, and it says it is a STEAMSTART-file

It does them into the same folder the game is in, which is Steam>steamapps>common>Hitman Absolution

There was not one, the .exe simply closes itself without any discernable reason

Same problem here. core i7 2,8Ghz, 8GB RAM, 2x460

same problem here.. running high end system.
Try closing the Steam client, then locate the file ClientRegistry.blob in Program Files/Steam (or Program Files (x86)/Steam if you use Vista/Windows 7 or higher). Delete that file, then restart the Steam client. Try launching the game, then.

deleting registry files is NOT going to fix this. Don't guess at the solution, especially when it deals with registries. thats not going to keep the game from getting to a start menu. This game wont even generate legible error codes. the crash dump files are in the old mbpb Valve early days crash dump format. You need a couple special programs to even analyze them. You get very little help from event viewer. What I want to know, is if people who bought the game as discs, are having the same problem as people who are digital downloaders from Steam. Does a 64 bit OS cause it to crash. what is the issue here.
ACIDOG Nov 21, 2012 @ 1:57pm
I have the game on disks. and is running on a 64bit system. so that means its not the digital version only.

I guess we are all just screwed then. They either won't fix it, or we will have to wait an eternity for a fix.

hi there, i've got the same problem, when i try to launch the game, sometimes steam tells me, that there's already one application running or it says nothing. I've already tried to shutdown the firewall, antivir (avast) but nothing happens. I also updated the antivir etc.
system: core i-7, 8gb, geforce gt 640m, so in my opinion it should fullfill the requirements.
btw, i'm using the "Hitman: Absolution Professional Edition"

Exact same problem here. I've checked cache integrity, restarted Steam and my PC, disabled AV software, checked for Steam and GPU updates and tried just about every other potential fix I've been able to find online. None of it makes the slightest bit of difference. Either nothing happens at all or I get the "unavailable" error message from Steam telling me that it is already running.
