Fix for those who get the error "Failed to initialize DirectX. The game requires a DirectX10-capable graphics card."

This is for those who continue to get this error even though you know that your graphics card is DirectX capable.

The normal reason for this error is because your computer for whatever reason thinks that your graphics card does not support DirectX even though it does.

To check what your computer thinks your card is running go to run and run "dxdiag." Then if you look under system it will say what your computer is running, but not what your card is running. For that look under the Display Tab and look at what your DDI Verson is. For DirectX 11 is should say 11, butif its not running what it should say it may say something like 9Ex for DirectX 9. If this is the case then this is your problem.

All that needs to be done to fis this is to do a clean install of all your drivers. Since I run AMD ill be giving the tutorial on that.
1) Go to your Programs and features and uninstall AMD Catalyst. Make sure to delete all AMD software and drivers when it asks you what to uninstall.
2) Make sure to delete any other AMD software in your programs and features including things like ASUS Smart Doctor, as these programs are what reverted your card in the first place. And if their not removed then after you restart your comupter again it will just do it once again.
3) Go to your device manager, right click on your gfx card and uninstall to make sure that all driver information is gone.
4) At this point restart your computer and do a fresh install of AMD catalyst, that will include the drivers and what not you need.

Hopefully this will fix everything for you, I just know this made me really hate my life for awyle so hopefully this can help one if you not hate your lives.

its pretty much the same for nvidia cards you just need the nvidia drivers

Step 1,
start and select run type regedit
select HKEY_Local_machine, and then select software then find Microsoft after opening that scroll down and find direct X.
you should see file
installed version and version either one should show a 9 at the start number. that means you have a registry error. delete only these two files.

step 2.
after doing that use windows update to reinstall the current version of direct X, if not show in update click this link you perhaps to have do it manually. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113

also Install Direct X end user run time if you game requires the older version that way you can keep the current version, you will also have to delete this Direct X user run time, as it doesn't not restore your direct X to the normal version.

(this may be the source of the problem with most users if not scroll down)

Note: Reinstall everything when you Dxdiag says you got the current version you want.

and then restart your computer
if you still have problems with this error then there might be a bug in a flash player

step 3 (optional if former steps fails to fix)
Uninstall all flash type programs.
Adobe flash player
Java
Unity flash player
Silver light
You tube plugins,etc.
that why you uninstall all you older version programs and flash players before reinstall new versions and it may cause registry error and bugs that becuz these type of errors.

restart your computer.
if problem still occurs, uninstall all windows programs expect security programs, and also that enhancement your graphic cards.

like for Nvidia delete NvidiaphysX, and for geforce etc.

and if that fails restore your pc to factory standards. (that when you first got it) i love the recovery drive. and reinstall everything.

I just installed windows 10. My graphics center says I have direct x 10.1 and the run code that brings up the direct x info says I have 10. They both have the same update version . I get the failed to initialize due to direct x. If you go to the OBS forums. A fellow there posts a pic of his specs. He was having the same problem. Now. I'm not 100% sure, but I think his gpu was a smidgen better than mine. The people there were basically telling him that his integrated graphics didn't fully support the direct x instructions because his laptop/pc's gpu was simply too old. Now I'm techy but I'm not a super tech,which means I'm not 100% certain I can follow the instructions to a T. Conclusion, I think my laptop is basically under-powered as well, possibly.

well i'm am super techy. your computer supports directx 10 however your grahpic card does not. it was just too darn old cuz it true. if you do not have shader model 5.0. your card is out of date. you need a new GPU which can cost 50$ that supports all the laset direct x11 and 12.

btw with D12 you do not need a new graphics card.

lol this is not true if you install the the lower dx drivers then you are stuck in win8 and 10 new update from win8 and 10 auto instal dx 10+ even if you lower the dx driver if you restart your pc it wil reset it back to dx10 there is no solution for this asta need to upgrade there crysystem to dirext 10 then there wil no problems animore normal players wil not go true this as mutch i love asta i wil not downgrade me drivers your system wil get coprupted if you play newer games aniway

Still having this error at startup. fresh install of windows, I have an AMD card and fresh drivers. It also doesn't have any error code besides the "failed to initialize direct X"
