What's up with Hitman Absolution in Asian countries?
When I got to the store page of Hitman Absolution, I got this message:

"Notice: Purchases made in this country will only be playable in Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam."

I mean what is this? I just checked out steamprice.com and the price doesn't seem to be cheaper than the US version so what's the deal?

yea what's up with that? I'm currently on vacation in Asia I don't want to buy a game I can't play back home

This happened because a lot of people were using proxys to buy games for $5 in asia, rather than $50 in the US, due to different prices in different regions. Game developers didn't like that, so they region locked.

Like I said, the price is not cheaper than the US version, It's still $9.99 so I don't think it has anything to do with this.

Can't you still play this game through a VPN that says you're in Asia though, despite the region lock?

Bump, seriously, is it censored or something like that? The price is $9.99 so I don't think it has anything to do with different prices in different regions.

Well, I got the US version from trading with other people so the problem is solved I think.

Could be a number of reasons, none as sinister as some may elude to, whatever that may be. There's all kinds of laws on distribution rights, currency rates from region to region, content censorship, and so on. Just ask the company itself if you want to know exactly why it is the way it is. I'm sure we'd be eager to find out what they say.

It's quite strange. Same thing happened to Tomb Raider.
