A few questions (open world, stealth and length)
Hi guys,

I have a few quick questions about the game.

1) Is this an open world game, or mostly linear, or even semi open world like Deus Ex Human Revolution?

2) What is the level of stealth like? Is it like Splinter Cell Backlist where you can 100% ghost the levels, or is it like say, Watch Dogs where there are times you need to kill people? Or maybe, something else altogether?

3) How long is it for one playthrough, roughly, you reckon?

Thanks!

1) It's mostly linear. Yea, you can go to the second stroy of a building or walk around the outside... Hitman blood money is the really only open world Hitman game out there. I would play that if you want an open world experience. So, not as big as Deus Ex, but it's bigger than corridor shooter.

2) There are many ways to kill your target.... Poison their drink, cut the rope and watch as something falls on 'em, make it looks like a mistake, and many more.

3) I can't give you anything on the playthrough since I have not completed it yet.

Hope that helps.

None of the Hitman games are open world.

They are mission based games. You finish one, you fo to the next until you reach the end.

The previous Hitman games had more sandbox type of levels, which were free to roam from the get go.

Absolution is a bit more limited, as you progress area by area in the levels.

And none of the games are like Human Revolution, which is a semi-open hub based FPS/RPG hybrid.

sMull is right.
It's fairly linear, but when handling enemies gives you a lot of options.
You're essentially given an area and are supposed to work within those limits.
It's possible to ghost the entire game, but to do so would be incredibly hard seeing as it uses checkpoints.
I'm going to be playing the game a second time today, so my guess would be that it's 10-15 hours depending on how slowly you approach levels.

Some of the levels can always be beat pretty quickly if you dont care about stealth or the extra objectives.

In terms of the level layout then, can you say it's something like Splinter Cell Blacklist? A pre-defined area, but you can choose one of many ways to execute the mission?

Yes.

I've seen Absolution compared to Blacklist many times. It deviates a bit from the usual Hitman formula, hence the many negative user reviews.

However it's a great game, with amazing visuals, great production values (cinematics, presentation, polish), smooth gameplay, and great missions with many ways to accomplish the tasks.

Ok, I don't really care about negative user reviews. Those guys played the stealth games in the early to mid 2000s that I never did, and anyway you are attached to what you play in your childhood.

Let's say I like the modern/contemporary stealth games like Deus Ex HR, Blacklist and Watch Dogs, would it be safe to recommend this to me?

For example, Blacklist had a non-existent story, but the gameplay rocked. So I don't really particularly care about story much.

Yes you'll enjoy it. Out of those it's closest to Blacklist, as its not an RPG or open world action game.

If you enjoy Absolution however, there is no reason not to go back and try its predecessor, Blood Money.

I like how they are more about social stealth (disguises, avoiding detection while out in the open amidst the enemy), and about creative ways to accomplish your tasks.

Great games.

1) Linear
2) I did the game without killing anyone but the targets. Most levels require you to go from one door to another without any action. Levels are split into short sections.
3) Depends on your pace. I tend to play games very slowly and take my time to observe levels and stuff, so it took me around 20 hours
