One of the tooltips in the loading screens lightly touched on this. Something along the lines of "While it's easier to avoid detection to kill enemies, a true assassin slips in and out unnoticed."
You get your points back for properly hiding the bodies of valid enemies, so no harm no foul. The game is just rewarding those who take the time to navigate the levels without leaving a trace.
If you think about it, real life hitmen don't pursue a target and knock off 20-30 people in the process. They sneak in and precisely strike their target in the most inconspicuous way possible.
It's better than the old Splinter Cell method of "kill or be spotted and restart from checkpoint".
Also, it's infuriating to see a little subtraction every time I do something the game deems "unacceptable" to the hitman "code" or whatever. Why not just give bonus points for extra stealth or no kills? Why make the player feel like they are doing something wrong or incorrect? I guess that is part of my issue, I'm not a bad player because I take out two guards and make it to my target in 2 minutes, versus waiting 5 mins for them to place themselves just so during their extremely slow and laborous patrol route so that I can stealth past them and wait another 5 minutes for the next set of guards.
I also don't buy any argument beginning with "real hitmen," because A) we don't really know anything about real hitmen, so who can say how they would do things, and B) this game has sexy nuns who fire rocket launchers as "hitwomen." So yeah, I still think it's just poor game design. :P
Nothing in your argument really changed from your original stance, so there's really no further explanation warranted..
I was WAITING for you to appear with this argument. I was reading it as I was originally wrote my initial post. :)
Just THINK about it.
Put it this way - we know there are and have been high profile hitmen. From the different mobs, and otherwise - even throughout history. Some have testified in court, and have thus given their story; so we do have a very good idea of how they operate. Only confirming their stories, why haven't you heard of them going through and slitting everyone's throat in the immediate area? Because:
I admit that the nun with a rocket launcher is over the top, if there is such a thing in-game. I haven't made it that far in the game; so I cannot comment on it.
Sorry, I reiterated my first point because your argument was that it was "sloppy" to leave bodies and also that a real hitman would just eliminate his target and get out. I felt that my original points already debunk these arguments, because A) he is NOT being hired by anyone to kill any targets for most of the game, therefore no need to be professional and B) who gives a crap about "sloppiness" when an entire city is on fire?
Also, sorry about the nuns comment... I did write [spoilers] in the thread title! ;P
I really don't like the points system, and the game is pretty lame also ... I've found that if you're not just "walking" everywhere using your instinct to bypass enemies, youre being penalized for taking out the people that want to kill you ........ I blame it all on console users ... game developers have dummed games down so much now I'm sure they develop them just so primates have something to play at night
THIS, sooo much this! I killed all the a-holes in that place. That was the first level where I really used the guns in this game. That level was also one of the few times where a game had a negative emotional effect on my. I was really upset at all the dead nuns, (and kinda pissed of with 47, because seriously, did you not see it coming Mr. Hitman!?!?!).
