Absolutely all DLC and unlocks were always purely for contracts mode.
The contracts server is owned by Square, the GDPR law changes required numerous updates that would have cost money, rather than pay for the updates Square closed the server and shut down contracts mode. Many games closed down servers rather than pay for GDPR compliance upgrades.
Thanks for the clarification.
Sniper Challenge is fully playable and is a single player experience. The servers don't work anymore for the leaderboards. But who cares about that anyways. Completing all of Sniper Challenge unlocks all the upgrades and assassin techniques for the sniper rifle in Absolution.
The sniper upgrades would normally be purchasable in Absolution (if contracts mode was still running). Sniper Challenge is the only way to get the sniper rifle upgrades now (or any upgrades, for that matter). The catch is, the upgrades are only usable in contracts mode. So you can obtain them but can't use them in Absolution. You also unlock the assassin techniques for the sniper rifle in Absolution. However, you can also achieve those by just playing through Absolution.
Sniper Challenge works the same as Absolution. If you complete all the challenges, your point amplifier increases. Which allows you score more per playthrough (you can net around 1,500,000 per playthrough with max amplifier). Which allows you to get the 50,000,000 points for all the unlocks.
Technically, Sniper Challenge was a pre-order DLC. But not really an official DLC. Steam made it accessible for everyone. So it's not even really considered a pre-order DLC anymore.
Thank you, I played through it years ago when it first came out and I believe I unlocked everything but I never got around to playing Absolution.
You mentioned assassin techniques for the sniper rifle- were these also Contracts only? Given everything else I've heard I'd assume so- but I thought I'd clarify.
Does kinda contradict you're first post though. . .
Anyway, thank you guys for your help- I really appreciate it!
The only snipers you can use in story mode are already there sitting at predetermined locations.
Refer to Johns723's last post about Controlled Breathing being unlocked in single player via Sniper Challenge. . .
Sigh from you're first post:
You just admitted this was untrue.
Edit
The unlockable I was referring to was the Sniper Unlock D.L.C. which is presumably how the unlockables works.
I'm talking about the weapon. It can't be used in story mode. The rest is pointless to even be discussing. And if you don't realize that you haven't played enough of the game yet. Arguing over skills that you will never use is meaningless.
Really? Because you failed to mention anything that specific.
You said that none of the unlockables applied to single player- this is, apparently, not true. Further, I didn't ask if a weapon was unlockable- I asked if anything was unlocked via Sniper Challenge.
As I understand there are sniper rifles in the game and abilities that go with them, that's hardly meaningless. What is meaningless however is arguing about it. . .
If you want to play contracts mode, buy the newer games. There's nothing else to discuss.
There are fifteen unlockables according to this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=124084927
The question was never about a weapon, that's an assumption you made for reasons that are beyond my ken. The question was always which of these had any effect on single player and you gave incorrect information- assuming that Controlled Breathing turns up in single player, which if it doesn't I apologize.
The problem here is that finding accurate information on this topic is hard and you're not making it any easier. And you're not doing anyone any favors by continuing to argue.
