Missing reticle on red dot sights
Whenever I zoom in with a weapon with a red sight, the red dot appears briefly and then disappears.

I've done some searching and found one forum post that includes a way to fix it:
http://callofduty.com/thread/200535177

Unfortunately, that post seems to be for people that have two video cards (like an on-board and separate GPU). I do not have two video cards so my Nvidia Control Panel does not let me select which preferred graphics processor to use.

My drivers are up to date and I use an Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 on Windows 7.

How do I get the red dot sight to work? It's useless as is and I'd rather play COD2 at this point...

I too have a GTX 260 and this problem. You can fix it by using Beta drivers, but the fix isn't permanent - see this thread:

I had some what of the same problem in the bios i disabled my3570K igpu and things are back to normal see if this works for you

The latest Nvidia driver (310.70) almost fixes the problem. The reticle will appear the first time I run the game but the next time I start it, the reticle disappears again. I have to reboot my computer for the reticle to come back.

Annoying.

dont use red dot, use normal sight like a pro.

Reinstalling the driver every time I start the game also makes the reticle work...

For me what works is go to the 'settings' in-game, go to advanced and set your graphics filtering levels to as high as they can go. I did this and it fixed it to me but every so often it doesnt work and I have to restart my computer. Oh and also try this: Open Nvidia control pannel -> go to 'manage 3D settings -> scroll down to texture filtering -> set it to "high performance". I also lowerd my graphics quiality. If you are like me and run it one the highest possible setting, i find that somtimes it makes the screen choppy.

I installed 310.54 Beta driver today, I actally downgraded drivers and problem is solved!
Precision Jan 12, 2013 @ 8:20am
Update: Nvidia driver version 310.90 also exhibits the same behavior. I need to reinstall the driver every time I play.

That's why I recommended 310.54 Beta driver , no need to reinstall for me and everything is running smooth for me. But I can understand that this necessarily doesn't have to work for you. But now I can see that you propably just add a new info about newest driver. Keep it coming sir! and thx for the update.

well he did search the forum and found a thread which matched his issue. Yes it is very old but he may have been flamed if he started a new thread due to so many threads on the subject.
Anyway iirc it was a driver issue that caused the error but as the name says I'm OldNSlow and can't remember much now a days.

even if this is a 4 year old thread you should consider upgrading, a GTX 260 isnt quite top of the line
