Black Ops 2 can't display nicknames with special characters, if a player using special characters in their nickname, Black Ops 2 will call them "Unknown Soldier" ingame.
Report to Steam: Player was using multiple hacks on Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Zombies. Here are some screenshots. There seems to be a hack where you change or the game changes your name to Unknown Soldier (Insert number here) This is becoming a very big problem on both multiplayer and zombies mode. Thanks for your time.

Their name changed mid game back to Joe so if it isn't possible for the game to display three character names something is up. He was definitely hacking and admitted as much. I also have a video of the match on theater mode.
