That being said, even the original game has a few infinite supplies of ammo and equipment inexplicably left in Alan's path. But it is actually explained later in the game that Cynthia Weaver left some of it laying around on purpose, for Alan or anyone else who may need to defend themselves against the Taken. It also can be reasoned that maybe Thomas Zane left the rest in Alan's path to aid him, because he had the manuscript pages and maybe could figure out roughly where Alan would be and when.
