To be honest, 4 is pretty high number ;).
I recommend you to install mod package from http://forums.demigodthegame.com/399399 and try to host the game or join existing one.
There is 1 opened game at the moment, so you can try to join it. But yeah, nowadays it's hard to find people to play with :(.

Still playing this with my wife from time to time. Glad to see that it is finally on Steam, maybe I can get some friends into it. Are the Enhanced UI, AI and Balance Mods working with the Steam version?

it is a shame that MP is so dead, but that always comes with abandonment of a game and given little attention by either it's devs or publisher (Cards, achievements, expansions, updates ect.). Such goes the way of many many really good games. It is interesting to note however that even with AI bot allies this game can be pretty darn fun as just a single player, especially if you ramp up the difficulty it can proivide you with darn near impossible skirmishes. Just be sure to log into Multipleyer at least once to unlock the other 2 demigods to play with. So yes, MP is rather dead but as with most games thrown away, it really is up to you to find a group to play with if you want MP. It is still a very good single player cop-op game with AI allies and cetainly worth getting on sale even with the devs/publishers abandoning it and no card sets or achievements. But it really is pretty fun, I wouldn't pay full price due to these things (Maybe if they came back and added cards and achievements) but certaibnly grab it if it is on sale.

i never said it died because of no cards or anything. I said it is still a fun single player game even with it being abandoned and that if they came back and gave it some attention it would be worth getting at full price. that's all.

Just out of curiousity, if I was to buy this and play with friends is there in game support for setting up multiplayer or do we have to do it with ips?

there's a in-game multiplayer platform, for both "Internet" mulltiplayer and for LAN. you can choose whichever one to both host and or join a MP game.
