lmao why did you get this garbage of a game?
Unhelpful to the discussion.

Some people, such as myself, want to keep the game for archival reasons and to preserve such software for future generations. Others may just be young, and love Sonic as a franchise. I know I loved Sonic when I was a kid, and we were all seven at some point in our lives. Try to be more considerate in the future, and think about how you'd feel if someone left the comment you did when you reached out for technical support on a game you had trouble playing.

It's the only java application that doesn't work and even after updating Java and doing a registry cleaning the problem still persist. What a bummer. :steamsad:

I found that downloading this Java RE from CNET got this game up and running for me:

I bought this game earlier today and got the same registry errors similar to what was described above. Let me know if this works for anyone else in this thread.

I just got Sonic the Hedgehog 4 EP1 and EP2. Sonic 1 didn't start, and after searching in Forums I found the solution. If the game doesn't start
If you try to start the exe in the Steam Common Sonic folder, then a message pops up that says

MSVCP100.dll missing or something like that.

Download Visual C++ 2010 x86 version and install

32 bits version:

64bits version:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14632

hope this helps,

I tried to run Sonic 4, and here's what happens: I click Play, the button changes to Stop for a few seconds, then it changes back to the green Play button. Does this mean that it won't play, or is something else happening here?

Using Windows 10 on a Dell Latitude E6420 laptop with 8 GB of RAM.

That means the game is crashing on startup.

Don't know if you have fixed your problem by now or not... but have you ran the configuration tool before launching the game?
If you don't run the config tool prior to launching the game, it will crash on start. Get the rewritten config tool from PCGamingWiki, replace it with the original in the game's folder, set your desired settings and then try to run the game again.
