Enemy Sneak Peak: WARPmaul

Hey Seekers!

Last time we talked about the Scanning feature (or Scan system) and today we are back with a deep dive into one of the many Enemy types, their origin and some hints at their weaknesses.

Name: WARPmaul (The Enforcer)

Biome of Origin: Tharsis Desert

Enemy Type: WARPed being

Combat style:

A rare elite WARP form that fights with cunning and brutality.

The attack patterns rely on denial of space and a mix of brutal melee attacks with powerful bursts of WARP projectiles hurling towards you.
These are reminiscent of powerful Quoth fighters akin to a general or a military figure in the corrupted world of CALX.

Weak spot:

WARP masses do become visible during certain attacks. You will need to exploit these crucial moments to destroy them and stun the WARPmaul.

The WARP enemies generally draw inspiration from decomposing marine fauna. They have been conceived as an upgraded version of the “Grunt” enemy; they share the same artistic reference, which is octopus with certain mollusk traits.

The Seeker's Eye: Scanning the Ruins of Syro

The ruins don't speak. They wait to be scanned.

As the Seeker, survival means more than fluid movement or mastering combat. It means learning to see what the WARP left behind.

Today, we reveal one of your most vital tools: the Scan system.

Your AI companion P.E.K.O enables environmental scanning across every zone of Syro. From the deserts of Tharsis to the depths of forgotten FLOW laboratories, scanning serves three essential purposes:

Read Your Enemy (Combat Intel)
Rushing headlong into WARP forms ends cycles quickly. Scanning reveals tactical patterns. Projectile types. Teleportation sequences. Impact zones.
Data becomes survival. Each scan adds to your understanding of corruption's nature.
Navigate the Remnants (Tech Secrets)
The world is littered with Quoth relics and ancient combat units. But dormant doesn't mean safe.
An MS20 unit might read as "inactive." Residual FLOW signatures tell a different story. What appears dormant may hold secrets you'll understand later.
Scanning helps anticipates traps, solve environmental puzzles. It reveals what still functions in the ruins.
Decipher What Remains (Ancient Lore)
For those who seek deeper understanding, scanning unlocks fragments of the past. Steles carved in a lost alphabet. Messages from those who came before.
The ruins hold answers. Scanning is how you read them.

Play however you want!

CALX respects how you play. If movement and combat call to you, focus there. The path forward doesn't demand every secret.

The game is genuinely very good. The atmosphere, color palette, and art direction reminiscent of titles like Jet Set Radio, PaRappa the Rapper, Journey, and Wavetale are extremely pleasing to the eye. The music complements the experience beautifully, and the mechanic where scanning objects reveals more of the world’s lore is a great touch that adds depth and immersion. Loved the demo, but had issues with aiming

I want to start off by saying the game is beautiful and fun, but aiming was a bit awkward -I noticed that my shots sometimes would go for other targets -Gyro controls on my dual sense controller weren't working with the game natively -It would be nice if there was a way to shoot outside of aim mode...

Rebinding controller or keyboard binds

I was trying to rebind a key and made a mistake, but I couldn't set it back to default, it didn't accept the input. Was very confusing, I was using a Steamcontroller and my keyboard was connected while playing.
