Essential Mods
Hi there !
I want to start playing again this game. I've read somewhere that it can be played well only, if game is moded. Can you write some titles of those "essential "mods ?
Sorry for my bad English.

Because they affect the same files, you can only play with -one- of these mods at a time (you can however install them all to separate mod folders:

Altarn's Polished Twilight of the Arnor 1 and 2 (also known as APT1 or APT2)
Autumn Twilight
MarvinKosh's Space Weapons Fix Mod
Tolmekian's TechTree Fix

These can be combined with other mods such as Kryo's Hull System Mod or the High Resolution Graphics pack, if you know what you're doing.

You should backup and clear your raceconfig files if you change which techtree mod you use, otherwise funkiness may ensue. :)

Thanks. Can you also tell which one of those mods is most useful in your opinion ?

I made one of them so of course I think the third one is the best. Seriously though, the best way to see which one you like is to try them out. Don't have to get too far into a new game, just start a new game and have a look through the tech trees to see what has changed.

Make sure to backup your current raceconfig files in the saved game folder and press Clear when customising your own and opponent races with a different mod installed, otherwise they may not perform as expected.

Try out only APT mod at first. It only fixes the weapon research problems on the AI, nothing else. Marvin's mod is for later, when you are familiar with the research tree, as it totally changes the way you research.

Are there any interesting mods out there you recommend that do more than just tweak the research tree? Like cool visuals for ships or tweaks to the story or game play mechanics? Any partial conversions out there trying to be a low rate version of other well known franchises, like Babylon 5 or Star Trek or something like that?

It's still complete.

Damn, that's pretty awesome! Thanks!

Sure it's completed?
Sry, didn't see that mod in action, but the dev said he won't continue it, as it was meant to be a mod for himself.
That sounds like "some things are missing" or "bugs incoming".

Please correct me, because this mod looks neat. :)
I'm bumping an old thread but I didn't see any other laying around about this specific mod. I tried to download it, except there is no download link (it says "download it HERE" but there is no <a> tag on "HERE"). Anyone knows where to find it?

Wait, so I should use both APT 1 and 2 at the same time? I've just been using 2, thinking it started with 1 and expanded it.

Start off with APT 1 and if you want a more difficult mod then APT 2, actually it is APT 1.3 for the first mod.

I can not connect to the galciv2 website, so past threads on mods may give a link but then I did not keep the individual link to the mod because I did not think stardock server would go down.

Just have to try later to see if any links are working again, I really do not have the time right now for this kind of thing.

Something is wrong with the Internet or the website, finally started but did not complete.

Try later.
Look in MODs section for Atarn's Mod.

there are old threads here on Steam that may have the direct link instead of going to the Mod forum page at galciv2 website. But you will have to look back a few pages at mod threads or last month threads.

The websites are working again.
or the Internet is working again, probably should say.

Link given is for the sentence with here and here underlined that contains the link, not the first download link given in that thread on the first posting.

(Everything that was done to make APT can be found here and here but the gist of it is this.)

Autumn Twilight 2.3 is a properly functional mod for GC2:UE latest steam version.

From what I have seen - the last CEP official-ized game update nerfed a ridiculous lot of features in order to "smarten up the AI". You can update that nerfed version with a fairly recent non-official CEP 6.24 available but I can't find any information on WTF it does because it appears to lack documentation. It can be found here:

----

Autumn Twilight v2 is a overhaul mod for Galactic Civilizations 2 - Ultimate Edition. Its purpose is to remove the more extreme changes made to the game due to the integration of the Community Update, to make the gameplay more like how it was in the last official version (v2.04), and to fix as many of the remaining bugs as possible.

Highlights:

restored a lot of content that got removed/replaced by the Community Update (e.g., technologies, planetary improvements, starbase modules, etc.)

changed the tech trees to more closely resemble the original ones, and made a few balancing adjustments (primarily to the weapons trees)

changed a lot of techs so you can trade and/or steal them again

restored the original gameplay values (i.e., abilities, planetary improvements, and so on) and made some small balancing adjustments.

undid several changes to the UI made by the Community Update (e.g., the removal of the ability to buy planets from the AI)

and more...

Available on Nexus.

Autumn Twilight 2.3 makes the game play like I recalled from old days.
