Stardock/Impulse owners of Galactic Civilizations II and the v2.20 Update

Unfortunately my copy of Galactic Civilizations II was purchased on Impulse many years ago. Checking both my Stardock account and the retired Gamestop app doesn't list any separate v2.20 update to download and install.

Are their any plans to cater for the crusty fossils like myself who don't want to fork out $19.95 for the Steam version as well just for the patch?

Not anymore they ain't. Stardock announced a while back that they're bringing their entire catalog DRM-free to http://www.gog.com/. Galactic Civilization 1-3, Fallen Enchantress Ultimate Edition and Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion Ultimate Edition have already been released there and rest will follow Soon™. Stardock catalog on GOG[www.gog.com].

Putting all their eggs in one basket was probably sound business decision at the time of the Elemental: War of Magic disaster and subsequent selling of impulse, it was after all a do or die situation, but now that they're once again financially stable they are once again free to expand their horizons and explore new options.

Yes, I'm aware they released a large chunk of their games on gog.com. But for now, when you buy things like GalCiv2 from the Stardock store, you get a Steam key, and no other option, so it seems that's still the primary delivery system.

Contacted their support and was told they were only giving out the digital edition at the moment (i.e. via Stardock.net). Oh well, can't complain too much, nice of them to go as far as they did. Onwards to galactic domination.
