Optimization needed badly
35-40fps average (fluctuates between 25-60, constantly changing depending upon zoom and what shows on map), with my setup which should not be the case.

GTX 4080
i9-13900HX
32GB RAM
SSD
2560x1600

Max Settings in game (**edit** I've also downgraded various settings*, but it still doesn't seem to have helped much).

-----

I know it's just out, and i expect there will be week 1 patches for optimization. But until then, the lower fps (if I want to play with max settings of course) is a distraction. It's just odd though that the listed Recommended settings are so far below what is actually being used.

Playing via Game Pass. And this is the fps I'm getting at the start of the game. Would hate to see how bad it gets when there's a lot of development and activity on the map.

-----------

*I've dramatically reduced resolution down to 1920/1080, turned off vsync, turned off shadows, turn off AA, turned all other settings to Medium, tried in Window mode, etc. You name it, I've tried it. Playing on that lower resolution with all medium and with various other settings off (AA/shadows, for example) I get an improvement of about 10-20 fps, or a bump up to an avg of 50fps or so.

One other idea you can do is to turn the shading into Direct Shading only. This will reduce the various effects done to the terrain but you should pick up a lot of framerate.
most rewiev at steam * my pc craching or cant run it * wtff is this , these are not rewievs

Tried that. Weird result. Overall, it is giving me a bump of about 5-10fps on average. I had fewer drops to the 40's, which is good. But when stationary, just looking at the map around mid level (just enough not to be able to see the people), it's fluctuating between 55-60, more-so on 55. Zooming in or out, I get higher fps (70-80), then it stabilizes and drops to about that 55-60fps spot.

This is with:
Shadows off
AA off
Direct Shading only
Resolution decreased to 1920x1200 (or something like that).

So at this point, it is indeed playable (for the early game), I appreciate your help. But as I mentioned in my edited post above, My concern is that while 55-60fps may seem acceptable:

1) that's with decreased settings that I probably shouldn't be forced to do in order to achieve 55-60fps

2) 55-60fps is the average, which means I get dips into 40 at times (although fewer times than before now that Direct Shading is selected).

3) this is with 1 city and 2 units on the map. If it is running like this with so little going on, it's surely to run like a potato when I get to mid game and later.

There seems to be something fundamentally wrong with the game that needs to be investigated and fixed. What you get visually doesn't match the required performance and how the PC is challenged. You can see from this option alone that something is not running smoothly and if you look at the CPU load even though nothing is happening in the game, it is also far too high. The amount of power that is being burned through here and what you get is completely out of proportion.

Even if you're just sitting with the game in a turn, the living world is moving and living.

As I type this, on my screen there's a flock of birds with over 400 birds flying in formation.

That's nice for the birds, but it doesn't justify how the game is currently going for the majority of players... and does not help these players. They may feel rather ridiculed by such statements. But if you look into the matter, you'll find a solution... But I'm out for now and will apply for a refund. If the problems are taken seriously at some point and a solution is found, I'll be happy to come back, as the game has already turned out well. Regards

only 20 mins into the game and understand IGN's (6) score...will play a bit more on my 4090.
I agree that something must be done/optimized for performance.....
This game's literally working my 4070S more than Cyberpunk with Raytracing on, SW outlaws, or FF16. And that's on turn 1.

Turn down the settings the game doesn't look that great anyway. MSAA is what kills it. It's the opposite of upscaling.

By the way 4090 and 4080 are already the best performing cards according to the benchmarks at ultra-high or whatever with 4x MSAA.

It doesnt seem to be a raw performance issue. With my 6800XT that is much weaker then a 4080 (nevermind a 4090) I'm running at 53~ fps on 4k with default settings.

However both GPU and CPU are running very hot. (which for me is a sign they are working harder then they should be for a game like this)

This is using the gamepass version.
I am shocked. Poor performance? Need for DLSS? I have been playing for a couple of hours with all settings at maximum and performance is fine.
AMD Ryzen 5800X3D
Nvidia 3080 8GB
RAM 16 GB
NMVE 2 TB
Now I understand why I did not get an invite to the Technical Alphas even though I signed up at the earliest possible chance...my video card is way below specs. I have an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050. I know it's pretty long in the tooth, but I can play Diablo 4 and Humankind, for example, without problems. I knew I might have to turn the settings down but I did not think I'd have to send it back to Civ4-looking settings and still only get 8 FPS. That won't do. Really deflated. I've been looking forward to this game. --- Luckily, my wife has a beefier Alienware system. I'll have to use that. ...The need to upgrade becomes more apparent, I guess.

What I'm saying is that the game is simulating the living world in real-time.

You can try turning down the living world detail and that would probably improve performance.

Hi! RTX 3070 + Ryzen 7 5800h laptop user here! You website lists Ryzen 5 2400G (4 core processor) and GTX 970 (4gb VRAM card) as a minimum amount required to run a game, meanwhile for me CPU performance is good enough, game barely manages to run at 1080 lowest at 60 fps while heaving 5.5gb VRAM usage which is surely weird considering 6gb VRAM are listed in recommended settings meanwhile at native 1440p max settings im not getting above 15 fps even without MSAA and yes V-Sync is turned off. What settings should i try in my case in which there is something clearly wrong with how this game uses VRAM? (at least in gamepass version)

I'm running the game in 4K, ultra settings, win 11, 4090 with 11700K, flawless, no issues.
