Ara: History Untold

Ara: History Untold

Title? What does Ara mean?
I'm curious why the developers chose to title their game Ara.
They could give it any name, and I'm totally fine with it, but is it the name of a fictional world, or is there any certain meaning behind the word?
The word Ara can be found in many languages across the world with different meanings, including "King" in Armenian and "Altar" in Latin.

The team took specific inspiration from a creation myth from the people of Borneo that describes two great birds - Ara and Irik, as having formed the earth and sky.

History Untold speaks to the heart of the game - every game of Ara is a chance to write a new, previously untold history of the world - with your leader and your choices at the center of things.

Ara Ara, dunno maybe just for the memes
Maybe it had not meaning other than just being a unique name....Of course I could very well be wrong,,, again...
in some different language it means king, I forgot which one.
Other than it being a genus of a macaw, I have no idea.
It is latin, it means altar. But i do not know if this is wanted by devs.
Ara is a mythological name of a famously handsome king. Armenian is also King.

The word ara has multiple meanings:

Gender-neutral name: Derived from both Arabic and Persian, ara translates to "opinions" in Arabic and "adorning" or "decorated" in Persian. It's a popular name in Muslim culture.

Astronomy: The Altar, a constellation in the southern hemisphere between Scorpius, Telescopium, Triangulum Australe, and Norma.

Ara has many meanings in Te Aka Māori, including:
Breaking of waters during childbirth
Way, path, lane, passageway, track, course, or route
Line of weaving or layer of toetoe thatch on a roof
Conveyor belt
Equal opportunities
Track in athletics
Series circuit
As an interjection, ara can mean heck or look, an expression of surprise or amazement. It can also mean there, yonder, there it is, or there they are.
As a verb, ara can mean to rise up, awake, or arise.
As an adjective, ara can mean namely, in other words, or that is to say.

Other meanings:

Abbreviations, such as American Railway Association or Associate of the Royal Academy, Agricultural Research Administration, Application release automation (ARA) tools, which focus on the modeling and deployment of custom application software releases

Arachis (ara-kis), a genus of leguminous plants that are cultivated in warm climates and are considered a valuable food

Etymology would show Ara is not Latin, but derived from the Latin āra, which means "altar". but "ara" is not exactly "āra"

Interesting info!
However, i'd use āra only in a latin class. So you cannot know if you right, for now.
You say: "Astronomy: The Altar..." Why? Because ara is altar, also in astronomy ;)

I can know, because I know how to use a dictionary and look up etymology sources.

Ara is derived from āra, but āra only has one meaning while Ara has been adopted into many languages and has many meanings, including being used as a proper name in some.

That's literally how etymology works.

Languages borrow words and sounds from other languages, but if they change the spelling or meaning then it becomes a new word with new meanings in that new language.

For example In the New Concise Pali English Dictionary, ārā is an indeclinable word that means "far off" or "at a distance".

ara, āra, ārā are three different words with traceable origins through different languages.

Even you pointing at astronomy proves my point. They "named" a constellation Ara, as "The altar" where as āra is any altar. One is a proper name, the other is a reference to a generic thing.

If this "ara" is latin, what it means? Altar

āra (Latin) means altar

ara (not Latin) has many meanings, most of them already listed (which you seem hell bent on ignoring)

ārā (not Latin) has many meanings, already listed

You seem to not understand that different languages exist. Try re-reading what's already been posted, you either missed or misunderstood most of it.

Definitely the one the devs should be going with.
I thought it was meant to suggest the English word "era" while at the same time suggesting difference, as in "this is not Humankind or Civ" (which is what people would think if they actually named it "Era"). There's a bit of mystery and even fantasy about it, which is reinforced by the game's cover art.

Given the type of game and what i've seen of it the Māori meanings look like what they meant to achieve with the game title.
