Experimental assigns Settlers to Farms Birdboxes etc
I deleted my rocks and some old houses, and replaced them with dome houses. Had to move quite a few facilities around to make that work. After that, I noticed that a kitchen was unstaffed, so I had a look at the People assignments - almost everyone who had been assigned was now assigned to different stuff - research stations, parrot houses, farms etc.

EDIT I just noticed that Robot Tera90X is now assigned to the Dining Table instead of the Uranium Patch. However, if I click on the Uranium Patch, it says no robot is assigned, although Tera90X was supposed to be.

Hi there, could you send your savefile and player.logs? You can send them to havendockyyz@gmail.com, share them to me @YYZ on discord, or whichever way is convenient so that I can take a closer look at what is happening.

Hi Yyz - I'm staying within the Steam environment, but am happy to answer debugging questions here. I love your updates, by the way! Astronomy Island is going to be very popular.

I would suggest loading a previous save where the characters are not re-assigned. Re-assigning of characters rarely happens while playing so my guess is that might've occurs when a savefile is not properly loaded and thus character assignments can break. (However, usually an error will occur on the screen to prompt when this happens and to avoid playing on it). If the savefile was continued to be played on and then saved over, then the characters will remain assigned that way until they are reassigned.

My guess would be to observe when exactly it occurs, and sharing the exact reproduction steps so that I can replicate the issue on my end and see what the issue is, assuming it's not occurring at load time.

E.g.
1. Build a sleeping rock
2. Assign a settler to Cookhouse
3. Deleted the sleeping rock
3. Select Cookhouse, assigned settler is assigned to Dining Table.

I've spent a few hours replaying from the previous saved game and checking assignments between each step - and haven't been able to replicate the problem. The good news is that I didn't lose much progress.

Is it possible to create the problem by saving a game at the exact moment autosave kicks in?

Not to my knowledge - even still, autosave saves the current state to a different savefile than the manual save.

What might have happened is due to playing on a savefile that had the loading error / character bug, but instead of stopping, the 'proceed anyway' option was pushed, which will of course result in the error since the game was not allowed to load properly.

I didn't play on a load file with the loading error - but I remember saving the game just before deleting rocks and adding the new houses. No errors came up, but after deleting some rocks and old houses, and building the new dome ones, I realized that none of my kitchens were staffed anymore...

Anyway, I have the save file from just before all the deleting and creating - and that loads just fine :)
