Stuck on kill streak challenge [Now completed]

I'd never really paid much attention to the guild challenges and their benefits. But recently played again and tried for 100% game completion. I completed the sequences and then replayed some memories to achieve 100% on all memory sequences. Then I set about tidying up the rest, including the guild challenges.

That's when I tried to complete the '5 kill streak' challenge and discovered it's virtually impossible to get into a fight without Janissaries, and they pretty much ensure you won't reach a 5 kill streak.

So I thought, fair enough, I'll start a new game and get the kill streak challenge done early. But I'm still struggling and actually think the game has had a recent update ? What I've noticed recently is firstly I even struggle to get a kill streak going at all. And then when I do the camera angle often rotates into a low angle and usually signals the end of the kill streak. In fact, when the camera angle changes Ezio seems to kill someone with a throwing knife - I never asked him to do that and don't remember that happening in previous times I've played the game, which is why I think the game has had a recent update. Anyone else notice this ?

Any advice on getting the kill streaks ? Even when the camera angle doesn't change I still usually fail as one of them gets an attack in on me and I just can't get a counter-block because I've already clicked LMB for the next kill. I have the Romani Stiletto equipped and am currently in sequence 4. I don't really want to progress too much further into the remaining memory sequences incase the Janissaries start appearing everywhere. I have also not captured any Den's as the Byzantine guards don't seem as tough as the Ottoman guards. But I still get the camera angle and counter-block issues, plus they also often run away before I can get a 5 kill streak.

about the throwing knife, if you hold the attack button during a kill streak, Ezio will stab a guard and use secondary weapon immediately on a second guard. In your case you use dagger, so Ezio will use throwing knife. If you use sword, you use the pistol. and you can continue your kill streak after that.

for counter-block, you can still counter even though you already start stabbing. Just need to press the counter button at correct time.

for the kill streak, what I do is gather as many soldiers as I can and start killing. so there would be enough soldier for the 5 kill streak.

and also, practise. timing your attack, be wary for enemies attack during kill streak for counter and don't rush. you'll get there eventually.

Thanks. I've got 3 so far, but have not managed one for a few days now and it's all I'm pretty much trying to do !! I've selected money for the 'secondary weapon', but notice he still throws knives. I think I must be holding the attack button as I just can't get the timing right - Sometimes he does a single stab, others he goes twice which just stop the streak in it's tracks.

I'm now beginning to think that I should progress further in the game. That way I reckon Ezio gets better weapons (though the Romani Stiletto has damage 5 and speed 3) and he'll generally become more skilled as well. And if I keep all the Den's open I can then still fight the Byzantines.

But for the moment I will keep trying in sequence 4. I usually get 2 sets of 4 guards to converge when attempting the kill streaks. I just find the more there are the more likely they counter me, so any more than 8 just seems too many.

Funny you mention the pistol as I have never specifically selected it as my weapon of choice but noticed in the stats that I had 80+ pistol kills - guess that explains it !!

you don't need to select the throwing knife for the double kill, just need to hold the button. and you can continue the killstreak after the double kill. did that all the time ^_^

or you can press attack button continuously instead of holding it until you got a kill.

and yeah, I think more powerful weapons is better since they nerf the kill streak from Brotherhood.

btw, I'm surprised that you finished the game but didn't know about the double kill mechanism.

I've already finished the game 3 times !! I'd read one of those handy hints that appear during the load screens about holding the attack button to get the secondary weapon kill. But I'd always thought it just meant he did it to the guy he was attacking - in a kind of 'now stay dead' way !!

Good news - I Got One !!

I took on 8 guards from outside the Fatih Mosque in the North West of the map and thought I got one. It included a knife throw and a block, but when I checked the stats... nothing !!

Then, as I was there, I ventured inside the mosque and tried my luck against the men in there, which included 2 Janissaries. For the most part they thankfully stayed back. I managed a couple of early kills then it broke down, but was joined by another set of guards so had enough non-Janissaries to have another go... and got a 5 streak (no knife throws, no counters).

I'm actaully in persuit of Mehment's Dagger. There's some conflicting webpages on which memory I need to do to unlock that, but the concensus seems to be for 'The Trickster, Part 1' which is the Constantine North Den assassin memory. The dagger has a damage and speed rating of 5, so hopefully it will make things easier.

block counter and grab counter wont affect the killstreak. it will only stop if
-you stop killing
-you got hit
-wrong block counter timing
-fail to countergrab

i found the kill streak one easiest to do in the early parts of the game, say sequence 3 or 4, once you start getting janissaries in the patrols it becomes impossible. other than that i cant give much advice on tactics other than keep trying.

Got all 10 now !!

I managed about one a session and I probably spent around 10 hours chasing this !! I think the biggest help was getting Mehment's Dagger with it's damage and speed rating of 5. I also managed a couple with a counter-kill thrown in the middle. I'm still in the middle of memory sequence 4 and actaully got most against the Otterman guards as the Byzantine guards really were chicken and usually ran off before 5 kills.

I believe the challenge of 5 kills is bugged. I killed tons of guys in a row, without getting hit and I still do not get any of the 0/10. I really start to hate this challenge
