But yeah, its advertised as an FPS and the series has always been FPS (not to mention its considered to be the first if not one of the first FPS games ever.)
Also if you are so concerned about the gun being too close to your face then change the fov.
You do not realize that FPS and TPS are two different things. It's not usual to make an TPS FPS game of one game. Also, like people have already said to you. Incase you didn't know, Wolenstein started whole FPS genre and has never been TPS. I see no reason to convert Wolfenstein to TPS.
We don't live in a world full of TPS. There is FPS and there is TPS, if you cannot play this game then play something else.
Third person also benefit quite a bit from focused development, allowing for very different cover and movement mechanics as well as different positioning in combat etc. Tomb Raider is a good example of this, allowing for much different level design and delivering a very different "TPS" experience.
Some games allow both and can shine with it (Deus Ex, anyone?) like the Arma games, but again that's an entirely different type of gameplay focusing on a far more tactical approach.
Wolfenstein here draws on a legacy of fast-paced and brilliant first person action, delivering a polished old-school shooter experience while drawing on the best mechanics from other FPS games, and it shines brightly as a result of that. I can confidently state that if the devs had added a third person viewmode that would have necessitated a very different level design and different mechanics which would in turn have ended up as something completely different from what we got.
There's plenty of room for Third-Person Shooter games and there's plenty of room for more old-school FPS games in today's market and I for one am very glad to see some developers polish their products lovingly, using the experience and knowledge gained over decades of developing a certain kind of game.
If you want a third person shooter, I recommend buying one. There's plenty of them out there. There's really no need to homogenize the market by forcing it needlessly on games that shine so much brighter without TPS, like Wolfenstein here.

Well this is first person shooter, what's the problem? In my opinion there shouldn't be third person view available in any case. Look for some third person shooter if you want that. This is first person shooter and good one.
Why? its a first person shooter, why should they change an entire genre because you want 3rd person? Should all strategy games offer a run and gun option so you dont need to use strategy? should all puzzle games have a fighter mode (ala street fighter) incase you want to beat your way past the puzzle?
Yes some games mix both but mostly thats games designed around being 3rd person as its easy to add a 1st person option to a 3rd person game but a 1st person game is designed around being in 1st person so 3rd person camera would mostly ruin it
It seems to work well in Skyrim with nothing taken away from the game play it just suits both types of players.
