Meh.

Some people love it - I think there are usually better uses for that much floor space.

Use extra damage upgrade.

Surround with damage traps. Scorchers, archers, pounders, etc.

Something with orcs but I forget.

Profit.

Fairly usless. They work well if one of the orc entry points has a long run to the rift, throw down a coinforge and some wall traps and leave that space unmanned, you will generate some extra coin.

Depends on the stage, but most of you are ignoring the exponential nature of the coinforge. Fully upgraded, enemies give 50 to 100% more money and take around 20% more damage while standing on them. Plus, they basically cost nothing.

Building a killzone or two around a coinforge can easily lead to you having more money than you know what to do with.

OMD2's best feature is that there is no *one right way* to do anything, so I'm not disagreeing with anyone who likes to use it.

Just to point out that building "around a coinforge" is what I don't like about it. I like to build a killbox - "box" as in floor, wall and ceiling traps all working together to kill much orc.

Doing that with a Coinforge requires very specific parameters in terms of finding areas that will support that big thing *and* have walls contributing to the damage *and* a ceiling contributing to the damage (Robodemon started out with "Depends on the stage" - very true).

If you have a Coinforge layout that works on a specific map - go kick some orc butt! But with a limited number of slots on my Toolbar, I find the Coinforge just limits your floor-trap-flexibility a bit.

Which is fair enough, really! I just disagreed with the people discounting entirely, because caveats aside there ARE quite the benefits to using it. But as you've said, to each their own.

Decoys, Scorchers, Guardians, Boom Barrels... all combine pretty well with a Coinforge setup, even without suitable walls or ceilings.
There was a time the Coinforge was considered a staple element of Endless runs.

Too bad it doesn't yield a combo point. Without it, it's useless for high scoring. I suppose Robot considered it would have been "OP" (although its size limiting the killbox locations seems pretty balanced to me). Or it's simply a bug that was never fixed. The Grinder provided no combo point at first (fixed), neither did the Dwarven Missile Launcher (was never fixed).

People care about score in this game? That's news to me.

Yeah, there was a small but active community about that aspect of the game.

Kinda culminated when I broke Passages:

Which led d2dota and Kholdy to pass the 1 billion mark, legit:

That community's now dead indeed, although Kholdy's been posting new record and impressive scores recently.

Huh, interesting stuff. Not my cup of tea, but I see the appeal. Thanks for the links.
