All OMD2 Profile progress lost when buying DLC
Hello,

I purchased and played the game back in Jul 2013. I also unlocked most of the things back then for both characters.

However, after just getting the DLC my profile has been wiped to zero.

I checked the forums and follwed the profile recover by using my documents\Shiner\profile.xml.bak (105kb) but that didn't work. Once I restarted steam (it wasn't running while I did it) and then the game, the profile.xml got reset to 1kb in size and zero progress.

I had spent a good deal of time unlocking things and getting high scores. How can I recover my profile?

Cheers

EDIT: I also have steam cloud support disabled and have never use it.

Just to confirm, you tried following these instructions?
http://v2.robotentertainment.com/forum/topic/How-Recover-Lost-Profile

'Cause they worked for me and others but then there are a few for whom it did *not* work. If you're one who tried and it did not work, I'm afraid there is no second option, you're just gonna have to start over.

Yes, that is what I followed. If I lost almost 20 hours of progress because I picked up DLC...just wow. The is some binary data. I'd guess encrypted data, maybe xml, but then it shouldn't be named <dot> xml. Clearly my data is there, they just changed formats or encryption keys.

Do the devs even support this game anymore? Any chance of an official repsonse?

Not on the Steam forums but you may get a response on the dev forums:

P.S. Just for the record, I bought the base game on released and each DLC as they came out but never lost progress.

Seems this happens more often than you would expect:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2335364

I already sent a support request on their website, the forum you linked appears dead with no replies. Their older forum has no replies for over a year. Seems they dropped supporting this game.

That's fine and all, but if you're not going to support the game then you should NOT continue selling it.

Link you provided concerns OMD1, not OMD2.
And no, installing the DLCs ending up causing the loss of the profile is not a known issue.
Steam Cloud synchronization, on the other hand...

Steam Cloud saves can be a bit iffy. If you don't have a use for them (ie, not playing on geagraphically different computers), best disable them by default.

Your data might still be somewhere, or might not.

In any case, it would take far longer to recover it than it would take you to just replay through the contents.
So my suggestion would be to just write it off, and restart.
You must be a bit out of practice anyway. ;)

And make sure it won't happen again by disabling Steam Cloud and keeping separate backups.

I know what steam cloud is and if you read my post you would see I've *always* had it disabled in steam global setting.

There are several other post regarding this issue too. It seems they put the backup (.bak) in because of this problem. I do have the save data, all of it. The problem is the game doesn't want to use it. I don't get a "corrupt save" like others have either. It just resets my save file when run.

Again, steam cloud was never enabled, so how am I supposed to ensure it never happens again? Rather game breaking bug.

And sure, I'm a bit out of pratice. However I have new DLC content to get back up to speed. Don't think I should be forced to unlock everything twice just because it's been a year since I've played.

Trouble with Steam Global settings... is they're completely ignored. That's a nasty Steam bug.
I also have "disabled" in the global settings... and all it does is disable the checkbox in each game's properties.
Said checkbox being disabled... but checked !

Every time I get a new game, I have to re-enable Cloud Saves in the global settings, so that I can uncheck it in the game's options, and then re-disable it in the global settings.

Now, I know your profile's loss sucks.
Happened to me with the first game, and at the time there was no known recovery procedure (and that's when I discovered that the global settings meant squat).

But you can either waste time and energy trying to get it fixed (this is the week-end, so best case scenario would be problem solved in two day's time), with no garantee it's ll even happen nor when... or you can spend that time simply playing the game.
