Why do people sell treasures ?
Why do people sell treasures, knowing that they can’t be used to complete quests and can only be sold? On top of that, most of the time, they sell them for just 1 gold more than what merchants offer. With the 5% tax (or 15 gold, depending on the item’s price), they actually lose more than they would have gained by selling directly to merchants.

Can someone explain if there’s a specific reason for this, or is it just collective madness?

Like gem rings, gold pots, candle holders, and all the other similar items—treasures that serve only to be sold or used for quests.

Maybe just timmies that don't know they need to be "found by," or people that do know and are trying to troll said timmies.

I think so too. I also wonder why madmen sell trash items at prices reaching thousands of gold. They know very well that they won’t sell—it’s just a waste of their gold on taxes.

Because newer players don't know it and fall for it.
Like I did when I first started, tho it was some 30g item and then I learned loot status meaning.
Can be also chinese gold farming bots, they sell stuff for lower than vendor would take it for often.

Trash items like bow strings or bat wings?
These are used to craft gold bags holding 250g in 2 inventory slots if you have enough affinity with leatherworker.

Meanwhile, Wolf Pelts are used for 1000g 4 slot bags and are always in demand.

theres a video/VoD floating around of KenKenobi spending 10k on an invis pot in a rush.....its a hope that someone will buy it. some see it as a "scam" of sorts; people do it in every MMO marketplace normally, and in some cases was used for IRL transactions. you'd pay a 3rd party lets say $5 for Gold or currency. tell them you're listing "x" for whatever amount of currency you're buying and boom, transaction done. tho the only game i've played where people did THAT specifically was "NeverWinter" tho im sure there's types that exist elsewhere.
