Merchant Affinity, What is it for?

You gain like 25 Affinity with merchants from doing their quests, but what is it for? Do you get lower Prices? If so, how big is the effect?

i think you get discounts/better items once you reach affinity 100 or 150. but what i dont understand how you can even get it that high because for some merchants you only get max affinity 50 from completing all of their quests.

New Quests seem to unlock weekly.
Mainly as a soft way to prevent people from unlocking high tier crafting recipies at the start of a wipe.

it also offers better crafting recipes (e.g. copperlight/cobalt/rubysilver gear)

You get better gear from the squire , discounted prices and more gear at merchants, it also unlocks more craftable gear.
