How does this life drain work?

I have a crystal ball, i right click, and i point at the enemy target, but no life drain sh*t is happening. Im not sucking any life. Maybe coz im trying to drain a skeleton?

You have to stand in place.

As mentioned you have stand still once you cast it on a target you can drain from, which makes it pretty much useless imo. I'm sure there are niche situations where you can get away with it, but the fact you have to stand still makes it pretty much worthless as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not sure about specifics but i see several warlock doing the life drain thing and farm entire rooms with it plus the ground on fire spell.

they use hydra+life drain mostly

theres also a perk that dosent let you go under 1 health while casting dark magic
