my advice is watch some youtube guides. Specialy the one that explains how to dodge enemie attacks. it helps a lot . Next would be to know the maps and pick a starting class that is beginner friendly

for the beginning go only into goblin map, if you alone then only solo mode, in white gear or any less than 25 point, try attack twice goblin with mace then walk backwards before they attack you and again and again, would be perfect if you hit his dead, they die in maybe 3 hits then with worst items, there is almost no way of getting hit.
when timer get close to 6 minutes you should already find blue thing on the map, it is exit, you probably can get away from there, if nobody would stop you, or if it wasnt used already.

you can literally request a knight (someone to help you) top left corner

use the "call a knight" program, a veteran player will teach you how to play, its in game function

Watch how people find the way to escape in each map on youtube
Then pick something like fighter, he can self heal with one button tap
And don't forget to raise your camera when shielding, mods love to head shot you

If Guides are a bore, then do fresh zero-to-hero runs and explore the mechanics without fear. If it is a F2P feature, then create a loadout in the 'Squire' merchant so it's fast to reset. It auto-equips the items on death so a fresh run can be started at once.

I believe movement is the most important factor in both PvE and PvP, so focus on where to stand to avoid hits (basic forward then backward movement works on most mobs), then proceed to focus on how an attack slows the movement, and then learn to time the attacks to the movement.

Some attacks are easier side-stepped, others can be spaced, some can be crouched under (for example attempt to crouch and look straight down to dodge a spearman or axeman sideswing).

Learn the map on the run, look on the minimap to learn what's what. For example, in the Goblin Caves there are four different exits indicated in blue on the map (rope escape, elevator escape, staircase escape, and portal escape) so to be comfortable with what options are around at all times is important for comfort once at a point where loot is relevant again.

One of the biggest factors in staying alive is learning how to kill mobs without taking damage. If your one-on-one with a mob the only reason you should get hit is due to lack of knowledge because every can be dodged. There are a few guides on "how to fight all enemies" that can help you learn.

Make sure you go to the squire and equip your base gear correct. You can add throwing axe, heal potions, and shield orb. You have to save it to base gear and then add it.

These are some excellent and up to date starter video's (in fact, they're so valuable to new players, they should be stickied):
