Unable to play the game. It says "Tavern not working."

Ever since the recent patches, I haven't been able to play the game. After loading, a popup notification tells me "Tavern not working. Please restart your game." Then it crashes, or I see my character loaded up, then it crashes. Any fix for this?

Just launched the game after a 2 week hiatus greeting by this message...

I did opened a ticket but they said there's currently no solution for that and they're working on it. Also said that if you're using Steelseries gear then try to turn off Sonar and Moments.
Hope they'll fix that soon...

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game, verified game files, still not working.

Maybe it works if you run DaD with administrator rights? Since I think Tavern is the anti-cheat software.

I don't see the option to run this game as administrator. So I've done so far:

1.) Verify game files.
2.) Uninstall and reinstall the game.
3.) Updated my drivers.
4.) Went into properties and granted "Full Control" to Users.

None of these have solved the problem.

I've sent emails to Ironmace, and scoured the internet, and still can't see any fix to this issue. Someone help me out please.

Are you running an antivirus that mistakenly quarantined a file it thinks is a trojan on this recent update? Cause that'd definitely break it.

I don't think so. I no longer have any antivirus other than Windows Defender, and I've repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled the game so any missing file should've been redownloaded...right?

Stumped tbh. I would just wait for the next update to see if it gets fixed at this point. Should be one soon.

Hey all I figured out how to finally play and get past the tavern.exe issue. Tried a ton of combinations of launch options and proton versions. Turns out none of the launch options helped at all and we don't need steamdeck=1 anymore if you're on linux.

Use Proton GE 9-7 and it will work without any required launch options. Any proton version 9-8 and later will break.

For the windows users I don't have a solution but you can try some of the launch options I found below to see if you can make it work:

-server=http://54.148.133.180:30000 -steam=1 -taverntype=steam -tavernapp=dad

Hey Linux DaD player here. I also ran into this problem recently with the new update from 9/18/2024. I removed the steamdeck=1 option as tomayy mentioned. I was able to get the game to login with using Proton 8.0-5 in the Compatibility settings.
