What is with lantern shield?

Sometimes its counter attack works and sometimes y just spam blocking like an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, is there a timing or something?

You just block right before a hit comes in and if you time it right, you press your block button again that follows up with a two-part attack. Yes, you have to push the button again for the second attack.

The lighter the weapon it hit it, the shorter parry window is to the point, where its barely possible against daggers for example.

it goes off of longsword too... its got something to do with weapon impact, basically, if the weapon you're using 2 hits ceramic pots, generally, it wont trigger a repost.
unsure if the fighters impact block perk effects it; and i don't remember if a barb with crush can just make the repost on lantern not possible due to higher impact on their weapon causing your shield to "stow" for a second...

I didn't want to use the latern shield at all because I assumed it would have some downsides of doubling a light source and a shield, but it's better than a lantern or a shield and that blows my mind, normally you make sacrifices for having both things maybe the sacrifice is the light source isn't as good. idk.

The light shines farther, but only in the direction the shield is pointing in.

yeah this is why I just don't use lantern shield, it's great for crush barbs or maces but everything else feels awful to fight with lantern shield, bows too

Lantern shield is super strong, don't sleep on it.

Not so sure, I'm using it all the time since it got impact resistance buff, the only weapon you need to stat check are dagger users, everything else is parry into satisfying kill.
