Basics of economy did the rest, mainly supply and demand principle.
Now you see the REAL prices of these items once market is saturated according to their drop rates when price speculators can't do anything.
I couldn't say it's the "real" value though, it's just a massive new gold sink appearing mid wipe that most people didn't anticipate and got hit with the FOMO hard lol. Prices will stay higher than this next wipe. Some items generally hold a value for multiple reasons and one of them being the gold storage mini-game, most people don't value a Golden Key beyond it's function as a form of currency thanks to the very restrictive gold storage design.
How else am I going to store excess gold earned other than in the form of other valuables? or for items so valuable you just can't do the trades in gold? that's entirely why some items hold a trading value to people more than they do an actual use value.
Funny thing is though I didn't see the point in selling any of my GK, troll pelt or coin bags off for such a low price, I sold random loot and gear through playing until I got 100k for the emote over several days, if I wanted the skin I know I'd easily get to 200k before the wipe ends but I'm not sure I care enough lol. People will be wise to this next wipe.
Again, supply and demand as well as competition from multiple sellers. at work.
Yes, people use items to store value.
That's why troll pelts are totally out of reach for casual players and you're better off farming one yourself.
"artificially limiting market availability" well it's not really artificial, if people don't want to sell things they won't sell them thus the "supply" in supply and demand. The majority of people aren't holding onto items so the value goes up, they are holding onto them because their value is far easier to store in the stash compared to the gold, even at these lowered prices it's still the case, that's what makes them worth something beyond their initial use in the first place, as there is no standard or supposed value for any of these items.
I'm a "casual" player and bought several troll pelts this wipe to make coin bags and to burn gold off, found 2 golden keys on skeleton champs with some luck, buy ore to store etc. If you mean it's out of reach for people who only play for 4 hours a week then well games like this generally aren't designed to pander to them. I doubt anything is going to be as cheap as this next wipe as these "hoarders" wont be surprised by the religion FOMO, which is easily filled just by playing and selling general loot.
That's one of the reason anyway.
