TavernWorker.exe trying to access passwords/usernames
Yo, just wanted to make a thread cause recently I booted up dnd earlier about 3 days ago and for the first time my antivirus flagged it for trying to access my google accounts password/username files. I understand an anti cheat is supposed to be invasive to an extent, but what does a browser have to do with anything related to this game? I have the screenshots for it being flagged on Norton. If anyone else is more knowledgeable about the .exe file do tell, ty.

I degoogled in 2020, they'll never get my passwords :csgocross:

You should post the screenshots when you make claims like this though, as well as steps to reproduce so people can verify the claim on their own machine or whatever. Sorry to hear you got rooted by a dungeon crawler tho. Happens to the best of us.

I will say, there's some legit reason why an anti-cheat would look for user fingerprints such as google accounts if it were looking for ban evaders. It's not a *good thing* but if it's not trying to open your metamask wallet or whatever I'd say its still likely "above board."

Anticheat is inherently a trojan in all cases. The bigger ones are whitelisted, but what they *do* under the hood is the activity of malware in all cases. As such a lot of people these days are isolating their PC gaming experience from other digital activity (as stated above, keeping sensitive credentials and data on external non-gaming devices)

running it isnt my issue, I dont want to open it more when its already running. I want to DELETE it

This is an OS level issue right because you have software you cannot easily remove, so that's a Windows problem. Since it is possible and easy to distribute such software on Windows, if you had not run into this problem with this specific software, you likely would have run into it with other software or have run into it in the past.

As such, you may know, but could always be freely reminded, that Windows has a very simple built in "Reset this PC" feature which you can find by going to Reset this PC in your windows search bar. You can try keeping your files and see if resetting while keeping files resolves your issue. If the issue persists, you may need to fresh install windows and delete your files, so back up whatever you need and then do that and boom -- unwanted software deleted.

To avoid this issue in the future you can use operating systems that prevent this sort of unwanted behavior such as iOS, MacOS, GNU/Linux, some flavor of BSD, or maybe ChromeOS or something. I'm partial to Solaris and Sun workstations personally. There's lots of alternatives out there. You can even run games on some of them.

If you INSIST on using Microsoft Windows, and you INSIST on downloading software from the Internet from parties you do not trust (in this case, a Korean video game developer) -- you should strongly familiarize yourself with the "Reset this PC" process would be my general advice.
