I have never met/talked to you nor posted on here before. If you've seen something like this before then that means other people are having the same problem, which isn't a good thing.
could it be that you were already infected and it wasn't the game that did it?
No, I am a Cybersec student, I don't download anything sketchy and I have the basic common sense of not downloading anything sketchy online...
I used to work at game dev for European publisher.
False positives issue emerged every single time there was any kind of patch to the games I worked on.
i don't download anything other than games period.
so far none of the games have been harmful in any way..
This is like cyber sec 101
For some reason it will always run even when you are not playing the game. It will also stay installed if you uninstall the game and continue to run in the background. I have also seen and heard other people complain that Tavern scans every single drive on your system while you play the game. This is something at least to my understanding that is almost never done with any other anti-cheat software.
I have seen people say they don’t really care but I think it’s a little odd and wish the devs would shed some light on all this.
These don't just scan game for modifications, they actively try to detect if you are using cheat software or overlays, these do not need to be put inside the games folder to function.
Tavern does nothing that any other anti cheat wouldn't do.
You are correct Tavern is the first anti-cheat that I have had a major interest in. To my understanding it is not common for anti-cheat software to be scanning everything on every drive but rather targeting system memory and specific directories. Sorry if I made it sound like I supposedly knew everything I am talking about. I am genuinely just trying to find a better understanding of how this works and wanted to share some of my observations on the little bit of research I have found. I am also pretty sure that anti-cheat software is not supposed to run when the game is not running but again maybe I am wrong about that.
Have you had any problems with your time running the game on your system?
And no, absolutely no problems.
Tavern turns on when game turns on and goes off when game goes off.
I actually have heard of GameGuard before but have no interest in it or any game running it. Thats why I said Tavern was the first one I had interest in. Because I am interested in playing Dark and darker. Sorry if I didn't make that clear in my first comment. Looking back on it I didn't really articulate myself very well.
Its anti cheat as any other and its designed to root out background cheating software, regardless where you have it installed.
Well, you downloaded the sketchy program called Dark and Darker, so yeah?
